Screen saver...is it possible?

Hello all!

Im using my DR800S since a few months, and Im really happy with.
One day I tought if it is possible to get a Kindle-Kobo etc... like "screen saver" function to the DR800?
So when I switch my device to sleep, the lock screen becomes my currently reading book's cover?
Well, that's not a lifesaving feature, and I know that not everybody wants it, but it would be cool.
Can anybody help with this?

Thanks!

technically should be possible by modifying sysd sources, suspend related method. There's a call to clean the screen, instead a call to show the book cover should be done (details - no idea at the moment).

There's a long standing debate (goes back years) about whether a idle/off eInk device should have a blank screen, keep displaying the last page, or put up some screen indicating it's off.

The advantage to a blank screen is that you know it's in the off state. The disadvantage is that some feel this is wasting the eInk's ability to maintain a static image without power.

The advantage to displaying the last page is that you can continue reading while the device restarts, although with resume times so fast these days there's not really much benefit. The disadvantage to displaying the last page when it's off is that it's confusing between being off vs hung... etc. Some people would think it's stuck and reset it, instead of turning it back on. Again, this is less of a problem with the DR800 since it basically goes into suspend/resume, not on/off.

Putting up some other screen to indicate the device is off/suspended doesn't really give any functional benefit. The devices that blank the screen already tell you that. Putting up some sort of "screen saver" like the Kindle does is more of a gimmick, than anything else. That's not to say it's bad, just that it doesn't really serve any useful function.

In theory it's possible to modify one of the iRex devices to do that, but as far as I know nobody has.

Thanks Shaggy!

I understood. However, looking from a user viewpoint, as I said It's not important, but like something aesthetic. It'd be cool, like a chooseable option, which if you want, you can turn on/off. Why? Becouse if I read a real book, I always start reading with the sight of the cover. If I must pause reading, I close the book, again, I see the cover. After hours, days when I continue reading, the first thing I see is the book's cover, reminding me, gives me a feeling like a "gate" to an other world. It could be a higher reading experience on the DR800. Yeah, I know that'd be an emotional plus, and not a practical operating need. I think that function on other readers is based on the concept of imitating a real book and reading experience (like what the e-ink technology does with their display type).

Sorry for my english, if its hard to read....

Except that Kindle does not show the book's cover but picks an image from predefined set of artwork. That way it is not more than dressing up, IMO. Unfortunately not all books have a nice cover, otherwise it would be cool to show the first page of the current (or last) book when in standby.

Thanks! I didnt know that. Some time ago, there was a Hanlin v3 firmware (maybe from LBook) wich did the thing Im talking about. Unfortunately later, it was removed from the next updated firmware.
