There is a bug in the plugin that causes the error details to be lost if a conversion error occurs while attempting to read a book in KFX format using the calibre viewer. This will be fixed in the next plugin release.

For now to reveal the correct conversion error message you will need to try to convert the book to another format instead of reading it.

Yes, that was helpful. The book you are trying to convert contains KFX formatting that I have not encountered before. I will need some time to reverse engineer what exactly is going on there and then I will release an update to this plugin to handle it.

I have found the cause of the problem and it will be fixed in the next plugin release. That will be available sometime next week. I won't have time to get to it this week.

This is a “heads up” to the users of this plugin.

A change to the DRM scheme for books in KFX format was included in this month’s Kindle for Android/Fire/iOS apps and will likely also be included in the next e-ink Kindle firmware (after 5.10.1.1) and the next release of the Kindle for PC and Mac apps (after 1.24.x).

It took years for the DeDRM plugin to support KFX. It may be a while before the new DRM is supported, if ever.

Without DRM removal this plugin will not function because all books delivered in KFX format have DRM, even those books that the publisher has requested to not have it.

If you want to import your books into calibre and have been putting it off it might be best to do it soon.

(This only applies to KFX format. The other kindle formats are not affected as far as I know.)

The problem is not with the book de-drm ing (which works) but with the actual book conversion from amazon's kfx format to epub so that i can read my book in Moon+ Reader. Probably the wording in my first post was bad.

Added: Looking a bit more I see that ASIN B00V2JJNI8 was published May 15, 2015 and the Amazon web page for the book now points to the second edition published May 31, 2018 with ASIN B07DFZ7WRF. Perhaps there was a problem in the formatting of the earlier edition. You might want to see whether Amazon will allow you to update to the new edition.

A change to the DRM scheme for books in KFX format was included in this month’s Kindle for Android/Fire/iOS apps and will likely also be included in the next e-ink Kindle firmware (after 5.10.1.1) and the next release of the Kindle for PC and Mac apps (after 1.24.x). It took years for the DeDRM plugin to support KFX. It may be a while before the new DRM is supported, if ever. Without DRM removal this plugin will not function because all books delivered in KFX format have DRM, even those books that the publisher has requested to not have it. If you want to import your books into calibre and have been putting it off it might be best to do it soon. (This only applies to KFX format.
