Can I put B&N books on other e-readers?

Does B&N have a proprietary drm or are they selling standard epub?

It is proprietary. You can put it on a jetbook lite, but not many other readers. It is very easy to remove the DRM though if you want to google search it.

They have a proprietary DRM which is licensed to several other readers (JetBook, possibly others).

However, some of their books are sold without DRM (every one of the erotica freebies from Samhain and Ellora's Cave that were offered as promotions in the B&N store are DRM-free, as far as I've been able to determine), but there's really no easy way of telling in advance which ones.

I'll note that the B&N DRM is actually probably the easiest to remove, should you be comfortable with doing this and live in an area where fair usage for personal purposes is not officially discouraged. Once it's off, their books are perfectly standard epubs and pdbs which transfer and convert beautifully to whatever format you need.
