Image-only eBooks now require a fixed layout manuscript on upload

This was posted by Amazon on March 15th for KDP published books.

Quote:
To ensure a great reader experience, KDP now requires eBook manuscripts containing only images, including images of text, to be uploaded in a fixed layout. If you upload an image-only eBook manuscript, you'll see an error message in title setup. To publish image-only eBooks on KDP, you can use Kindle Create to change your file to a fixed layout such as comic or print replica. Alternatively, you can re-format your manuscript so that it contains reflowable text, which allows readers to use adjustable text features like font size and typeface for a personalized reading experience.
It seems to me to be a good thing that Amazon is going to start enforcing this. I have seen quite a few self published books on Kindle Unlimited that are just a series of page images but are formatted as a regular reflowable book, resulting in extra margins, occasional blank pages, and other problems.

(Not any big news, but I thought I would post it since this subforum has been very quiet lately.)

Yes, it is good.

Baffling that it wasn't always true.

Stupid using Kindle branding for non-reflowable / print replica / fixed layout, which are electronic documents, not real ebooks. Also stupid that such are not marked with a recommended minimum screen size and maybe resolution too. Such documents not only often can be even bought for eink, but can be bought if you use an app, but your screen may be too small.

Greed to leverage the Kindle brand. At least they stopped calling the Fire Tablet a Kindle Fire. But why reuse Fire branding for TVs and streaming sticks?
