Apparently, my sarcasm was not as obvious as I thought. Me needs to try harder.
Yes, I have read Asimov's Foundation series and know about Trantor and the Galactic center. Co-opting a great work of fiction to couch a political agenda may be mildy amusing but it is still a political agenda. Maybe the Sarah the Mule will save them from the evil oppressive government. (See I combined two literary references into one but in this case there is only one mule for sister Sarah). Apparently they didn't read about the Socialists in the Second Foundation and how powerful they are. LOLZ ARchon |

We all have bad days, and I have them more often than many others on MR. Usually, I read more into others statements than is really there. When I realize that I've been a fool (there are times when I don't) and have behaved badly, I do apologize. Sometimes publicly, sometimes with a PM also. Other times I just say some very stupid things and have to eat crow as I apologies to one and all. Like you, I sometimes assume that my jesting, sarcasm, or plain foolishness are clearly apparent to one and all. So on the 12th posting I thought that I should make if very evident that this whole post was a joke. And so I wrote in bold orange print the following. Quote:
"Apparently, my sarcasm was not as obvious as I thought. Me needs to try harder." Less would be better. Your brilliance astounds me as it is, and sends me to the darker corners to hide. |

Well, it seems that I have survived the storm of the century.
All we have is a lot of old snow covered in ice. Strangely we can let the ice build up, just not the snow. On the first of the big snow storms we had, I slipped and fell twice while walking the dog. Ahhhhh. Nice. Soft. Snow. The ice, though, has me putting salt down twice a day. To all our warm weather friends on MR, PLEASE, feel free to come north and enjoy a winter wonderland shoveling snow. Better hurry while we have some left! On a serious note, I hope all are well and warm. I once lost all power for 11 days, so I have a small clue as to how bad it can be. Luckily the temperatures never went down to freezing. Good luck to all. |

At the moment my husband and I are staying in a motel room 2 minutes from home. It's been so hot and humid for so long it is affecting our health. And we think it's worth the cost to spend a night in an air conditioned room. I'd love a little snowright now.
What shame we can't swap climates nowandthen. A couple of years ago I met an elderly couple who had 2 homes. North in Queensland for winter and south in Tasmania for summer. If only I was rich I'd do the same. |

I think the same thing every summer and winter. If I could afford the time off I would love to trade places for two weeks. It really is nice looking here at the moment and the cold isn't too bad. I've put enough ice melt on the driveway and sidewalks to make it safe to walk to and from the cars.
Peco reports 7,800 customers remain without power Thursday morning. That's out of a total of about 185,000 who had their power knocked out by Wednesday's storm. I just found out that we have another big storm coming this way next Wednesday, so my reprieve may have been short lived. You may be off better down there for the moment Lain. |

I'm just being facetious about the snow shoveling deaths. The thought occurred to me as I was doing the third snow removal of the day (and one the night before). No matter what activity we, or the government, engage in some deaths will occur. Staying with the government for instance, here in the US some states restrict the sale of liquor to state run liquor stores. (On a purely personal level that offends me, but I'll keep that out of the discussion unless someone wants to start another thread.) The next step in the chain is that someone will buy some booze from the state liquor store, drink too much, drive, and possibly kill others. Is the government responsible for the deaths? Emphatically NO. But is the government involved in the chain of events? Yes. NOTICE I enjoy a sense of the absurd. Although some can see that and laugh with me, others have, unfortunately, misunderstood my intentions. I did try to add a disclaimer on the first page of the thread, but that too was missed. Quote:
To those that I've upset, I'm sorry. Not for upsetting anyone in particular, because some will be upset if there're told that it's a nice day. I'm sorry that there is no way to avoid such misunderstandings other than to be totally bland and uninteresting. |
