Trekstor Pyrus Maxi: Bare-bones 8" digital ink reader.
After launching the tiny 4.3" screen Pyrus mini, Trekstor have just announced its big brother, the 8" Pyrus Maxi
The mini has a 230dpi 600x800 4.3" screen. The maxi has a 160dpi 768x1024 8" screen. It also has 4GB of memory to the mini's 2GB and also claims twice the battery life. But other than that, they seem very similar. The screen resolution can't compete with the Kobo Aura, and it's more expensive than the Kindle Paperwhite. But if you want a physically bigger screen, this might be for you. According to The Digital Reader, it's due in mid-May for around €149. Last edited by Nate the great; 04-30-2013 at 01:08 PM. |

Looks interesting - ePub support with Adobe DRM, folders, SD card slot. I can't see any mention of a price in the linked article. Do we know what it's going to cost?

About €149, according to NetNewsWire, where I first saw it mentioned.

Interesting - thanks. If it does appear at that price, I'd certainly be tempted.

Have there been any reports on these screens compared to ones from eInk?

I'm not sure. I've seen that they're being sued by eInk, but I'm not sure who makes them.
EDIT: I guess the screens are made by Guangzhou OED Technologies... http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...e-ink-screens/ Last edited by AnemicOak; 04-30-2013 at 12:44 PM. |

This doesn't appear to be front-lit, I take it?

Seems the Maxi sacrifice size for wi-fi connection and front-light.
The Maxi resolution (1024 x 768) isn't good as the Kobo Aura (1440 x 1080). €149 is about 197.89 Canadian dollars - it's getting up there in terms of premium pricing. Last edited by RZetlin; 04-30-2013 at 08:46 PM. |

Unless I missed it somewhere, the screen is not a touchscreen... for such a large device that could be used for PDF reading, the lack of a touchscreen for easy annotations is disappointing... at least, well, it would be a deal breaker for me.
I know I might be picky... but I love buttons for page turning, but for annotating I prefer a touch interface. On the good side, I am really loving this trend towards larger e-readers. Hopefully, someone will build a really fully-accessorized (wifi, 3g, frontlit, touchscreen AND buttons) soon. I can dream, can't I? |

Frankly, that's pretty much what I paid 'around that time' for a PRS900-950, which had a touch screen and 3g - and a screen that was just a tad smaller. |
