How are online sales between individuals done safely?
So I've never sold anything online before, but am likely to sell my new Boox Nova 2 shortly (assuming you can't return a perfectly good product to Onyx because it doesn't fulfill your need).
Can anyone point to a resource that offers tips on how to do it safely and securely for both parties? Last edited by mtreader; 05-01-2020 at 04:03 PM. |

If you are selling it here, than sadly none, it all comes to the trust of buyer that you will ship what you promised.
Ebay has protection, so buyer could request refund if he does not receive goods, or if device is not working. But there are are always people that will try to trick somone, on ebay you need to check seller/buyers previous transaction, is he active and how many trade deals has he made... On forums like this it is more relaxed, it is community based so it should fdel safer, you can check how long is persong selling stuff registerd, hos many post did he made, you can read some of the post to make general impression of the seller, if he is active and helpfull part of forum, buyer will not expect him to screw him over. But again, basicaly trust, you are buying something for less money than brand new, so risk is always there. |

If you have the buyer pay you through PayPal, PayPal does offer some protection for both buyer and seller. (PayPal does charge a small transaction fee.) You can set up a PayPal account for free, if you don't have one, and link it to your checking account and/or credit card. You can do up an invoice through PayPal if you wish. I have sold items on this forum and asked buyers to use PayPal, and all went well.
You can also sell on eBay. More protection, but the transaction fees are a bit higher. |

Thank you for the replies. I'll look into using PayPal as an individual.

I've sold some things on here and I too used PayPal and had no problem at all.

I use Paypal. The extra fee is worth the protection. Some folks got burned on my cross stitch group but got their money back from Paypal. Don't use the Friends and Family unless it is someone you know as you have no protections using that option. Ebay gives you protection as a seller.

Click on the user name and choose find more posts by user. IMO a frequent, long-standing user is likely to be more reliable than someone with 1 post. You can use google too. Also ask if they have previously bought or sold here, and if so, do they have a link to the post, or the name of the user they did business with.
