Well, this solves the problem for those who wanted to be able to use whispersync titles on the same unit like you can on the Basic 8, but now with a light. It's a shame they phased out the Voyage. I love mine - the light is so gentle on my eyes. I don't see myself buying the new Paperwhite until my Voyage dies and it continues to be problem free. My Basic 8 manages the text-to-speech I needed.

I tried VoiceView on my Kindle 8 (KT3, or whatever you call the newest Basic Kindle). It worked fine on a trial basis. Not something I would normally use. I also connected the Kindle 8th Generation to my Bluetooth speakers in the car and was able to listen to an Audible book (also something I'm probably not going to use, but I wanted to see if it would work).

I'll be back when I remember a time I sat in a totally dark room with a bunch of other people and read on my Kindle. So far, I haven't been able to remember sitting in a dark room with a bunch of strangers without a movie playing and, of course, with a movie , it's not totally dark.

I've read in a totally dark room with my M-Edge Luminator light or Kindle lighted case (many times), but not with a bunch of people around. (I guess I'm missing something?)

I don't know if they will retire the Paperwhite. It's their best seller. I would also like to see a cross between the Paperwhite and Voyage. It's fun to speculate though.

I think the paperwhite would be enhanced by getting some of the Voyage parts flush screen, buttons either sensor or regular buttons. I think the paperwhite has a larger battery.
