Free Kobo books?

Before the new Kobo store interface there was a nice list of all the free eBooks. Does anything like that exist in the new store interface?

And is there any hope of knowing what formats books are available in?

For a list of free books I just choose a category and search with nothing in the search field, and then order by price low to high. That shows the free books first.

The only sure way to know what format a book is in is to add a preview to your library, then the library listing for the preview will show the download options (Adobe DRM epub, DRM-free epub, etc.)

IE9 still shows the old look site, which means that the link to the Free books still works, and you can see the format and DRM info.

ooops ..... whilst (using IE9) Kobo have retained the Free Ebooks header and link, and you can even make the choice of free ebook category, you then get the message:

'Sorry, but this page isn’t available in your region.
To see the great Kobo offerings that are available where you are, go here: http://store.kobobooks.com.'

So, it seems that it's been disabled.

Project Gutenberg : books in the public domain, scientific publications, selfpublishing booeks, etc.

You can manually download an ebook and put it to your ereader, or simply use your ereader's web browser and click on a ebook's link : it will be automatically added to your library.

MobileRead has some great free books with improved formatting and forums about free ebooks formatted for various readers.

If you don't like book cover that comes with a free book, Calibre might find a better cover available for download using edit metadata function. Right click on book listed in your Calibre library brings up this function.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I wasn't talking about free books I could put on my Kobo, I was asking about the list that Kobo had on their old site that listed all the books that Kobo had available on the Kobo Store for free. I'm quite familiar with Gutenberg and MobileReads and a few other places now thanks to the thread (I think in the deals/freebies forum) asking for free ebook sites in general

That's the link that lynx-lynx gave, but we discovered that for both of us all the categories say that they're unavailable in our regions.

I don't see "Recommended Reading" (or even "Recommended") anywhere on the Kobo Store. The only mentions of "free" are "Try any magazine free for 14 days" and the heading for their free ereading apps.

There's no categories list on the main page. There is a list on the ebooks page, but that list has nothing for free books.

I think you're seeing the old web site. What browser are you using? What's the full URL of the page you see the link on? For me, the front page is http://store.kobobooks.com/.
