It's done!!!! Thx
I made a restore of my KT4W and at settings I used english as the language; but I think this is not important. Then I installed the factory firmware and then I decompressed the kindle-jb-factory-1.3-r16160.tar.xz with winzip in a windows computer. I suspected about this because I had decompressed it on my mac with "the unarchiver" and the merchant.zip file seemed to be a direct access, not the real file. So I did the search procedure with the new merchan.zip file on my kindle and I got the you are jailbroken.txt document. Let me now continue with the procedure installing the hotfix jailbreak package. Thanks very much to you all!!!! |

Yep, stupid archiving software strikes again.
Also, for the record: the de-register probably didn't help. I don't remember if it strips the relevant bits from a factory FW, but it might. |

KT4 on 5.11, serial G0910L. I used to own a jailbroken KPW1 and it worked very well. Because of all the new features in KT4, I'm considering jailbreaking for a few features. It would be very helpful if someone could verify these for me.
* Changing font rendering options * Custom screensavers That's it! I hate the new interface and the fonts seem subpar. I guess the UI is here to stay, but if I can do something about the fonts, I should. What are the risks (if any?) associated with jailbreaking with this method? Have there been any kindles (KT4) permanently bricked/damaged from this? |

Depends on what you mean by "changing font rendering options", exactly.
Other than that, unless you do something truly epically wrong, like picking the wrong factory image, it's pretty harmless. |

There was an option for changing the hinting in the fonts hack. That was really great, my custom fonts (and some of amazon's!) look like crap without it. Is it still installable on my 5.11 KT4? |

Then, no, that stopped being possible around the time Amazon introduced custom font support (i.e., 5.8-ish. Definitely b0rked on 5.9, as that's what I checked on). The hack will gracefully disable that feature to save you from a soft brick.

Hi
I just received my Kindle (KT4) and I've read the jailbreak tutorial (some times). As English is not my native language (soy español), I would like you guys check my notes to avoid get a brick with my device. My KT4 is able to jail (G0910L) and FW 5.11.0. First doubt Register the device in my Amazon account ¿Have I to do it? What I think I have to do 1. Mode airplane 2. Create folder update.bin.tmp.partial at the top level of the visible USB storage 3. Install FW factory a. Place .bin in root folder 4. Install the jailbreakb. Eject kindle and disconnect USB cable c. On kindle – Update Your Kindle a. Download kindle-jb-factory-1.3-r16160.tar.xz 5. Install JB Hotfixb. Copy the Merchant.zip file as-is to the top level of the visible USB storage, and then eject & unplug your Kindle c. In the search bar, type ;merchant and press return. d. If everything went according to plan and the screen finally refreshes, a You are Jailbroken document will appear if the process was successful. e. delete both that document and the Merchant.zip file a. Download and unzip JailBreak-1.15.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.zip 6. Install custom FWb. Place Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.15.N_install.bin in root directory c. Eject and unplug the kindle d. UYK a. As knc1 says in #49 in this thread, download update_kindle_10th_5.11.2.bin 7. QUESTIONb. Place it in the root folder c. UYK a. ¿Have I to install again Hotfix in this point? 8. Install MRPI a. I find a kual-mrinstaller-1.7.N-r16309.tar.xz but I don’t know what I have to do 9. Install KUALa. What I have to do? 10. ¿Any more? Thanks a lot santiago |
