Chinese Support : book name & fetching chinese webs
use software font mapping to make 505 support chinese character, need help for two question:
1. when 505 connected and works with Calibre well, can send file fm library without problem. interesting thing is the book name is correctly shown in chinese in library and on 505 when transfer just finished with 505 still connected. after disconnect 505, the book name become strange characters on 505, but the content of book still can be shown in chinese without problem. what's the problem? 2. for recipe, if I understand correctly, all worked with RSS feeds. is there any recipe of common news website but do not have RSS feed for my reference? example url: http://www.nanfangdaily.com.cn/21cn/ it's in chinese. Awaiting and thanks in adv. |

to see the book name correctly you have to install chinese fonts on your reader

it's 数字化生存, in chinese with author "unknown".
Also have a big problem when connecting 505 to my macbook, osx 10.5.6 that after calibre find 505, 50% chances that it'll pop up the window saying "The database of books on the reader is corrupted...1: unplug the reader....2. quit calibre, ....." sometimes re-connect or delete the media.xml file works, sometimes do not. sometimes just let it be and it works.. I'm really all confused what's the correct way/step to use it. seems the media.xml file play an important part in this problem. It's strange that sometimes the file is 0k, sometimes is 4k, sometimes is media.xml.tmp, sometimes even do not have this file at all. Anyone know how this file was created? by 505 itself? what kind of action will lead 505 to revise the file and how long it takes avoiding the file is 0k or tmp file? How Calibre recognize it properly? below is the info that last time I try to connect 505, and that media.xml file do not exist for your ref: Job: **从设备上读取书籍列表** **IOError**: (2, 'No such file or directory') **Traceback**: Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre/gui2/device.pyo", line 37, in run File "calibre/gui2/device.pyo", line 140, in _books File "calibre/devices/prs505/driver.pyo", line 327, in books IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/Volumes/PRS SYSTEM/database/cache/media.xml' Awaiting yours, it's really a headache for me that can not use 505 with calibre as I wished. Many thanks. |

try converting the txt file to epub before sending to the reader, as for you media.xml problems, sounds like you have a faulty reader

Faulty reader? u mean the machine have problem itself? but if I just copy the file directly to the reader, it works well.
Have any reference for how 505 create / work with this media.xml file? and how Calibre retrieve / work with this file? thanks. |

what do you mean by how it works with the file? every time you disconnect the reader, it rescans all the files in its memory and updates media.xml accordingly. Sometimes, it corrupts/deletes media.xml, which is the problem you are seeing.

thanks for info.
yes, ur got my idea. the question is that sometimes there's no media.xml file or only have tmp file but the 505 still works? and if the media.xml file exist with 4k size, calibre should connect it without problem right? why still pop up that error message? |

if the file does not exists, the reader will regenerate it and the error message happens when the file exists, but its contents are malformed. In such a case, the best thing to do is delete the file, disconnect the reader, it will regenrate the file and then re-connect to calibre

For the chinese file name problem, found that after transfer from Calibre the chinese file name do not show correctly under the Calibre file folder on the memory card. the connection problem still exist, sometimes after 1-2days and it can work with calibre well. sometimes even calibre report error message but still can see the icon of 505 memory card and work with calibre . really strange. |
