Browser Viewer: Request to hide <aside epub:type="noteref">

Dear Kovid,

I read elsewhere that though <aside epub:type="noteref"> is an epub3 feature, readers are not required to hide these by default. But I would like the Browser Viewer to hide them, and that would be wonderful. Please.

You can simply add your own CSS to do that via the User style sheet setting of the browser viewr.

I'm not that smart. .

Can you guide me what the css is?

I tried

aside p {
 display: none;
}

or

aside p {
 visibility: hidden;
}

then the content of the popup footnotes are blank.

Something like:

[epub-type="noteref"] { display: none }

.book-content-popup-container [epub-type"noteref"] { display: block; }

That will hide it in normal text and display it in the popup

Sorry if I have failed to follow you. I copy as is what you posted to the css but it doesn't hide the note from maintext.

What is it you want to hide exactly epub:type="footnote" or epub:type="noteref"?

Adjust the selector in the example I gave you accordingly.

I'd like to hide <aside epub:type="footnote" id="id">Contents of footnotes</aside> from being display as normal text.

This is what I have now in the user style sheet

a {
color: yellow;
}

[epub-type="footnote"] { display: none }

.book-content-popup-container [epub-type"footnote"] { display: block; }

But the "Contents of footnotes" are still displayed as normal texts.

You might need to adjust the attribute name IIRC the viewer mangles them since browsers run in html5 not xhtml. Use the browser inspector to check the exact attribute name and use that in your selector.
