Welcome to MR!

The Sony 505 is a very capable device, and I'd say not to difficult to get to grips with.

There is a comparison matrix on many of the readers available, which I'm sure some-one will post a link to before I get back to edit this post with it

Hi jjohh22 and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a 505 since Jan 08 and really like it.

Welcome

The 505 was my first dedicated Reader back in October 2007. It's a great device and pretty easy to use. As you say there's a bit of work to do to make a Kindle workable for your average non US resident.

Without the wireless feature the only real difference between it and the Sony(s) is the access to books from Amazon. While there are still some books that Amazon has that others don't (I'm talking Fiction books) that gap is getting smaller every day. The Sony also has "collections" which give you the potential to organize it very well if you start getting a lot of books on there to keep organized. The Kindle has no real organization like this.

Welcome to Mobileread, jjohh22!

I agree with the others that the 505 is a great device and ezsy to use. Downloading free ebooks from here is pretty straight forward (and there are lots of members only too willing to lend a hand).

Happy Reading!

Hi -- I'm a little late, but the matrix that was mention is available on the first page of the WIKI (tippy top line on this page, 3rd item - Wiki). On the Wiki front page, find the words "The famous eBook Reader Matrix" in blue. Enjoy!
