Unwanted blank pages

I've got a problem with unwanted blank pages, as follows: I'd like to use our cover image also within the book as the first page. I add the image as normal, but when I view the book in iBooks on our iPad, there is either one or two blank pages placed before this image - one blank page when viewed in portrait format, or a blank spread when viewed landscape. Is there a way to control this? It's odd, as there are other images in the book where this is not a problem, and there is no problem with the file at all when converted to Kindle. Resizing the image, reimporting etc does not resolve it. Any help appreciated!

Please post your code for the cover. There are more possibilities.

Hi Toxaris; do you mean the code for the cover as placed in the first page?

This is the current code for the first page:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<title></title>
</head>

<body>
<p><img alt="CCC1_cover_web_col_inside_small" src="../Images/CCC1_cover_web_col_inside_small.jpg" /></p>
</body>
</html>

OK
there are NO. None, Zero styles associated with anything there.
That says, you accept ALL the render programs defaults: Margins, indents ...

depending on your image size, and the BODY margins, and the P margins,
things are probably overflowing on both sides of the Image.

Thanks theducks. So where do I go from here? I use Sigil precisely because my HTML knowledge is very shakey, and the WYSIWYG format is useful for me, so I'm not clear on how to attribute styles.

Well, you can try the tutorials in Sigil as a start. Just use Help->Tutorials.

Thanks meme; I use your guide regularly and find it extremely helpful; though I can't seem to find specific reference to how to resolve my problem. From what I can see, the 'add a cover image' section does not deal with this.
Could anyone point me in the right direction of a good code to resolve this? Much appreciated.

I seem to have resolved this by adding the following code after the image

width="auto"

Full code sample:

<img alt="CCC1_cover_web_col" src="../Images/CCC1_cover_web_col.jpg" width="auto" />

This allows an image which is larger than the screen resolution to fit to whatever orientation the book is being viewed in and resulting a sharp image.
