Still can't generate a Mobi catalog

I deleted theactual book names, and left the error messages. I ran it twice, to make sure it wasn't a fluke. The first time it failed after 3:42. The second time it failed at 3:21. Any ideas?

The book whose id is 1005 in your database has some bad metadata that is causing the xml parser to choke. See this post in the main thread about catalogs to isolate the book in question, edit its metadata, then run the catalog build again.

You also have some tag management issues, it looks like you have multiple versions of some tags. Please see the first post in the main thread for suggestions about managing tags. Try using '.' (no quotes, just the period) as the regex pattern for excluding genres (excludes everything) as a starting point to isolate all of your metadata problems.

I found 1005, and changed the metadata - it was a bad description, with a lot of strange characters. I checked the rest of my metadata, and did not have anymore. But I still was not able to make a catalog. I made it 4 minutes 4 seconds this time.

These are all books I downloaded from Amazon, from Samhain publishing. They look fine when they are in Calibre, when browsing, but if I go into metadata, this is what I find:

G-Thank you so much for all your help. It did work, 35m 8s. Here is my question - can you point me to something that tells me how to use the catalog? For example, I would like to eliminate some of the tags, and change the order of how the books are shown. Is that possible from the kindle, or do I have to generate a new library? And how often should I generate a library? I add a couple books a week, but if a whole new library will be generated, rather than an update, I might only update it every couple months.

I'm happy that it's working for you! A new version will be released shortly with a number of bug fixes that should make things simpler. Thanks for your patience.

A couple of suggestions for using the catalog feature:

• Anything that changes the content of the catalog has to be done within calibre, at least for now.
• The new version has a nifty new feature 'Recently Added'. This is a Section with all books sorted in reverse chronological order of when you added them to your library, organized by month. I think you'll like it.
• Given the length of time to do a build, maybe you could set a side a time once a week to build a catalog of your entire library. I tend to start my big builds just before doign something that will take me away from the computer for some time, like walking the dog or sitting down for a meal.
• Another thing to consider is doing smaller builds that will take less time. For example, you can select just the books you've added in the last month and build a special catalog called "Books I Added in January". By changing the title, you can have multiple catalogs in calibre and on your Kindle.

Great suggestions! I could do a catalog by genre. I usually know what genre I want to read next, but not what book. Being able to search within genre (once I clean it up, which I know has been suggested-getting rid of Fiction, et al) will be really useful.

So a couple of days ago, I downloaded the latest version of Calibre and could not generate the catalog. Today, I downloaded the latest latest version, 6.37 and now I can generate the catalog. Here's the thing:

Calibre is only cataloging my A titled books. I have over 1000 books in Calibre but it is only creating a catalog for the A titled books, any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Appreciate anyone's response.

P.S. By the way, what I see so far with this feature, I LOVE IT! This is exactly what I needed - since I have so many books, this helps me read the synopsis to determine which book I want to read next, would just like to get my entire library cataloged.
