Content Server on Arch Linux
I have several computers, most of them with Linux. I use Calibre mainly on Arch. The current version is 3.32.0-1.
Recently I tried to start the Content Server. On the same machine with Firefox I can access the library of Calibre with http://127.0.0.1:8080 or by entering the IP address of the computer itself. However, from another computer or ebook reader I can't. The browser says it is connecting, but after a while it runs out of connection time. If instead I start the server on another computer with Linux Fedora (and with another copy of the Calibre library) everything works fine and I access from computers, tablets, readers, shavers ... etc. The Fedora version is 3.29.0. The two systems are on the same network of course. Where can I start investigating why the web server running on Arch is not accessible? Thank you. Last edited by ginsa; 09-29-2018 at 07:06 PM. |

127.0.0.1 addresses are only accessible on a single machine, thus the name Localhost
You need to use the assigned (public) IP for the host machine, from anyplace else on the LAN If you single click the Sharing over the net icon, you will see the public IP (and port), next to STOP the server. |

Somehow, I don't think the OP would be running Arch without knowing at the very least that 127.0.0.1 refers to localhost. @OP I'm not familiar with Arch but have you checked if it has firewall rules blocking the server? Even on Windows, the firewall default for running servers is blocked unless explicitly allowed. |

Alas, I expect you're gonna need to research how to do this on your own. I doubt many (if any) here use Arch.
I use Mint because I wanted a distro that's user-friendly with a community that doesn't just tell you to RTFM when you ask a question. |

Is your arch computer publicly routable? is it behind a router? if so have you forwarded the port to it? What IP address are yo uusing to try to access your computer? From which network. Arch by default has no firewall, so unless you have set one up yourself, it wont be a firewall issue.

On Arch server there are no firewall or iptables rules. On the same machine where is Arch system there is an Ubuntu system in multiboot... and a copy of the content server on Ubuntu works as it should. Incredible !! |
