Options #3 and #4 are not totally mutually exclusive. Please complain about that extensively in the comments for the full "poll experience".

When an email comes in, I glance at the header and go back to reading.
Since I conduct a lot of work through email, I will often just check the subject line of the email to make sure it's not a pressing matter. |

sigh. In the case of my nook color, I read for about 7 minutes and then realize the Angry Bird playing kids have once again left me with no juice.
And it's back to the Kindle. #2 Feature of my Amazon Kindle 3 - my kids never touch it. (right under the ability to read in direct sunlight) |

I don't read on a multifunction device. My only distractions are the dogs & when DH has the t.v. too loud.

Most of my reading is on an ereader.... less on my iPad. But even when I am reading on my iPad, I don't get sidetracked. If I am reading... I am reading!!!

I sometimes get distracted and browse the web on my Nook Color, but it depends on the book I'm reading.

I tend to shut everything out. If I'm really captivated by a book, then I won't even leave the house.

When I am reading on the Nook Color, the book has all of my attention (or at least the part that the cat on my lap doesn't demand). Before I put the NC down to do something else, I might check my email or look at the weather, but then again, I might not. If I sit down with it intending to play games, that's what I do. For the most part, though, when I'm reading on the NC or one of my other devices, I'm so absorbed in the book that I don't think about anything else that the device is capable of doing.

I don't have a multifunction reading device (unless I am reading on my kindle app on my droid), but still my droid calls to me with surfing capabilities and solitaire (my current distraction, in many varied forms)

on a laptop, of course I cannot shut my email, and of course I have to check any new message as soon as it arrives, just in case is something super important. And of course there is something that I must absolutely check right NOW in the news. And of course I must veryfy whether Andy Murray is becoming a Scot again...
but on my e-reader, besides it being fully equipped with games, internet conenction, mp3 player - well, I just read: must be an e-ink thing |
