Some people are running an old OS either by choice (i.e., Windows 7 when they could upgrade to Windows 10) or they are on the last version of MacOS allowed by Apple on the computer.

On a Windows 7 machine. Don't think any newer version will run on that.

I've gone through and found when Calibre first changed to using Python 3 and that turns out to be Calibre 5. I haven't actually tested to see if this plugin works on that version so anyone who does, lmk, but I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. Either way, I've bumped the minimum req and I strongly recommend anyone to upgrade from Windows 7 at this point.
Also added is support for the new style Kobo pages so we should be working on all countries again, and thanks to GizmoWeb, better support for non-english native country settings. |

Is it intended that 'Kobo Metadata' comes up in every download metadata search result even if the book itself doesn't exist on Kobo?

If there's an ISBN, it shows a link in the Ids field. I personally find this a bit of a bad metric as a) I have many non-Kobo books with ISBNs and b) not every Kobo book has an ISBN see edit.
I was specifically referring to the download metadata search dialog in this case. I suspect it's the ISBN thing again. EDIT: Interesting: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show...3--isbn-prefix Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-26-2024 at 06:36 PM. |

Honestly I'm somewhat surprised people actually use that link. Personally I only use Calibre to send books to my Kobo so my workflow doesn't really involve those links at all. I have noticed that ISBN is not actually that great of a unique identifier on Kobo, but I haven't found a better one yet (relying on the kobo url also seems kinda iffy).
What are people doing with Calibre that makes this an issue? Perhaps I can remove the functionality of the extension offering those links entirely instead. |

Personally, I use the kobo: identifiers (https://www.kobo.com/ca/en/ebook/{id}) used by the older Kobo Books plugin. of course it does have its own problems, e.g. the number at the end changing when the book's edition gets updated.
Unfortunately, since the passing of davidfor I've found that plugin failing more and more often, presumably due to site changes, which is why I was looking at this as a replacement (or supplement). Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-28-2024 at 08:50 PM. |

It looks like Kobo 404's the previous edition once they update with a new one so I'm not too keen on using this as an identifier. If anyone comes up with a better one, then I'm happy to use that instead, or alternatively, remove the links entirely.
As an aside, has anyone else noticed Kobo searching getting much worse recently? It looks like the new store does something weird with cookies so search results are different from user to user and the ones without any cookies (like this extension) end up with particularly bad results. I've had to manually copy in the isbn for the last few I've tagged ![]() |

If I search in incognito mode, I get a completely different search page than I do when logged-in.

I've been getting 403 errors for a little while now. I thought it might clear up, but it hasn't. Logs show:
Code:
KoboMetadata::_get_webpage: Got exception while opening url: HTTP Error 403: Forbidden KoboMetadata::_lookup_metadata: Could not get url: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search[rest of url removed] |
