Catherwood, Mary Hartwell: Mackinac and Lake Stories (1899), v1; 18 May 2020

(1847-1902)

A dozen short stories set in and around Mackinac and Beaver Islands and the northern Lake Michigan, where the disparate cultures of the American Indians, the French, the Irish and subsequently the Mormons mingled and clashed in the 19th century, and where John Strang was crowned King of Beaver (and later assassinated).

1: Marianson
2: The Black Feather
3: The Cobbler in the Devil's Kitchen
4: The Skeleton on Round Island
5: The Penitent of Cross Village
6: The King of Beaver
7: Beaver Lights
8: A British Islander
9: The Cursed Patois
10: The Mothers of Honoré
11: The Blue Man
12: The Indian on the Trail

The source was Faded Page, which had all the stories except one. I found that at Internet Archive. The .pdf file at the Archive also included illustrations, which however were so poorly reproduced that I have left them out.
