Tey, Josephine: A Shilling for Candles (1936); v1, 2 Feb 2002

An Inspector Grant detective case. Josephine Tey was one of the psuedonyms of Scottish author Elizabeth MacKintosh (1896-1952), who also wrote as Gordon Daviot.

The story hinges on an odd phrase in a will; one heir is left just "a shilling for candles".

I didn't know about the movie. There are quite a few Tey novels uploaded here, dating back to when the site was hosted in an L+50 jurisdiction, but when it was moved to an L+70 jurisdiction they were taken down, and brought back up again this year. All her crime novels, plus one or two others. For some unknown reason, this particular novel wasn't in among them, so I uploaded it to fill the gap.
