Looking for steampunk recommendations

I think I'd like to try some steampunk. I'd prefer a stand alone book, or at least a self contained book from a series. Also, I'd prefer no vampires or zombies.

Go to Smashords and get Wesley Allison's Voyage of the Minotaur. The dragon is steel. It is part of a 3- book series, but it can certainly stand alone.

I really enjoyed China Miéville's Perdido Street Station.

The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling is the book that pretty much invented the genre. It's set in a mid-nineteenth century Britain undergoing a information revolution driven by Charles Babbage's eponymous mechanical computer.

The Light Ages by Ian R. MacLeod. There is another book set in the same 'verse, but they are both standalones.

I loved Scott Westerfield's Leviathan. It's set in an alternate WWI universe where the war is between Darwinists and Clankers. (There's a book 2 out now Behemoth, but I haven't read it yet)

I've read that - it's pretty decent.

I would also suggest The Iron Duke - it's gotten rave reviews. I haven't read it yet but I've purchased it.

I've also had my eye on Aururarama by Jean-Christophe Valtat.

And Tim Power's The Anubis Gates is considered proto-steampunk.

The Dream of Perpetual Motion by Dexter Palmer. A steampunk-ey reboot of Shakespeare's The Tempest... with shades of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory thrown in for good measure. Loved it.

Also, Neal Stephenson's Diamond Age. Or Anthony Huso's The Last Page -- which has lots of steampunk elements, but I'd hesitate to label it as such.

I'll also second the suggestions of Gibson, Mieville and Powers. Powers should be read just... well... because.

I read the sample and was intrigued, but I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.

EDIT: Almost forgot Cherie Priest's Boneshaker

Perdido Street Station is one of the strangest books I've ever read. And I mean that as a compliment.
