It's possible that's the only legal title available as an ebook.
But there are complete plot summaries and some nice cover images at: http://www.biggles.info/ And this might be of interest: http://www.wejohns.com/ Captain W E Johns died in 1968, so it will be a long time before his books are in the public domain. |

Fond memories - there were some of my favourite books as a teenager, too.
Tommo - you might like to try the "Bulldog Drummond" books that I've posted here. A few similar style to Biggles. |

Fond memories indeed. Biggles started out in a Sopwith camel mixing it with the likes of the Red Baron and ended up in a Spitfire. Never aged a bit and I never noticed the oddness of it at all. Loved those books.

He even made it into the age of jet aircraft - I remember clearly the book where he first encountered one and was wondering where the propellor was .

But let's all forget the abyssmaly bad movie that was made back in the 80's sometime. It really massacred the Biggles franchise in the worst way!

I wonder about the author(s). Was it like the Hardy Boys with different people writing the books? I seem to remember some style differences but it was a very long time ago and I was quite young.

No, he was a "real" author - it wasn't like the Stratermeyer Syndicate, who churned out all the childrens' series - Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, Nancy Drew, etc - which, as you say, were all "ghost written". W.E. Johns was a real person.

I didn't read Biggles as a nipper (I remember trying on one occasion, but the book smelled weird and it put me off) - but I quite enjoyed the film.

Nope, same author for all Biggles books, he managed 98 before dying, or rather 97, the last one was not quite completed when the author died. It was however released as a limited edition.

A formidable achievement. Imagine the number of hours of pleasure he gave to so many children. It is so pleasing to think about.
