"connection unexpectedly closed" when trying to email Kindle 3

I keep getting "connection unexpectedly closed" error messages when trying to send a magazine I downloaded using caliber to my free.kindle.com address. This has happened when I tried to send it manually and when I first downloaded it. Tests from the Welcome Wizard fail to my free.kindle.com address fail with the same error.

In addition, calibre's Welome Wizard doesn't hold the free.kindle.com address in the "kindle email" box. It's there when I leave the wizard but has disappeared when I return to run another test or check the settings. It holds the addresses I put in the "send mail from" box.

My firewall log indicates that it has allowed calibre traffic and the calibre application is also allowed. i'm using calibre version 0.7.47

The error reports are below my signature. any advice will be greatly appreciated. thank you,

Ellen

You need to use a mail relay, like gmail to send your mail

Thanks. Still doesn't work, but no error message this time.

I put a gmail account in the "send mail from" box in the Wizard and my @free.kindle.com address in the "kindle email" box. then I tried to send a test message. Nothing happened. No error report but no indication that the message was sent. (Perhaps I didn't give it long enough?) I clicked out of the wizard amd when I returned, the kindle address was gone again.

What is supposed to happen? I can't find anything on this in the manual or online and don't know what to look for or try next.

So, still.... help please!

First send a test message you your own email address to make sure sending is working. Then fo to your manage kindle page on amazon and add the gamil email address to the list of allowed senders. Then send a book to your kindle.
