.sh Script : Progress box similar to msgbox

Is there a way to show a pop-up message from a .sh script, similar to the "msgbox" one?

Only, this box should not wait for an "OK" tap, but should allow the script to move on. Then the script could modify the displayed text at a later point.

There is pickel that you can use to display images, I'm not sure about text. I'm curious about your project, what would you use it for?

I found the msgbox very useful in troubleshooting scripts.

For example, when I was trying out the "usbnet" feature from Kobo Launcher it did not work the first time. I added msgbox lines to the script to find out where it was going wrong, for example:

insmod /drivers/freescale/foo/bar
msgbox "insmod1" "$?"

If the msgbox is replaced by one that does not wait for a tap, it would be more convenient to watch what a script does, without having to click "OK" many times.
