I hate the Yankees, but civic pride overcomes my distaste for them when they reach postseason play. I NY.

My heart belongs to the Mets; they are my cross to bear. I was a fanatic in mid-1980s--the glory days of Hernandez and Carter, Strawberry and Mookie, Gooden and Darling. Now, I'm a casual fan, so I don't tear my hair out after every screw-up and blown game.

Baseball is polite and civilized. Everybody gets a turn, it's slow enough so one can assess and discuss every decision and play, it's not necessary to have an announcer tell you what's happening on the field, a game can go on forever. Your team can be down ten runs in the bottom of the ninth and still win, so there's always hope, not like games with a clock where the team can just run out of time. Players come in all shapes and sizes. There's tension and edge-of-your-seat suspense on every pitch. No other game comes close.

Superfan Laila - the team’s inspiration this season of what it truly means to keep fighting. It’s so sweet to watch her interact with the guys. The video where Laila’s mom tells her that she’s going to Game 7 just brings on the tears! It’s so awesome that she got to go on the ice afterwards and touch the cup because she was part of their story too.

Catlady - think this is a perfect description of why watching baseball is so great!

I’m not surprised you root for the Yankees during the playoffs - if I love a sport, I usually enjoy the watching opponents too.

Just yesterday I finished reliving a glorious moment with the help of You Tube. It was the day that the Pittsburg Pirates won the 1960 World Series against the Yankees with a home run in the bottom of the ninth by Bill Mazeroski. It was the most thrilling game of baseball I have ever seen.

It's late, but I have to note the first European MLB games this past weekend. (Sorry about that, Victoria! Heh.) The attendance was the highest for a regular season game since 2003; the tickets were snapped up in less than half an hour when they went on sale last December.

According to the NY Times, part of the point was to give a real ballgame experience and the London hosts had to be educated in such niceties as hawkers in the stands. I can't say that 50 runs in a two-game series was exactly typical!

Next year, it'll be the Cards and the Cubs. The turf has been rolled up and put away until then.

50 runs?! No, hardly typical. I saw that there were games, but hadn't read the details. Sorry, my sports "jones" is being assuaged by the WNBA and, starting this weekend, by the Tour de France. And by reading cricket commentary on the current World Cup. (I can't get cricket broadcasts here, and even with a VPN I haven't managed to watch the U.K. feeds.)

Thanks issybird! I’m sure you regret showing us up like that, especially in front of company . I’ve been looking forward to it since the schedule was first released, and it was an astonishing display! So much fun.

Yes, though not all libraries have it, obviously. This new one about to be released by Audible has Fred Berman as the narrator. Not one I know.

It’s a shorter novel if you have to wait until the Audible release. About 7 hours.

No - not available in my library’s overdrive as an ebook or recording
