Neat. But I wish they had a level for just the e-book. I have many of the megapacks already and have several anthologies containing Who Goes There? I'll likely just buy it when it pops up on Amazon, since they've already hit 132 times their goal.

Not sure they can fairly say they are publishing the book as John Campbell originally intended since we wasn't just the author, but the editor of the magazine it appeared in and surely could have had the unabridged novel published if he chose. Still, it'll be neat to see.

It's a shame they couldn't include Alan Dean Foster's novelization of the John Carpenter remake. It is a good book in its own right. I have a fan scanned version of it, but it would be nice to see a legit release of it. That's the curse of novelizations, I guess.

Empire of the One (Wine of the Gods Book 14) by Pam Uphoff

I have read this (more than twice) and enjoyed it.

They crossed the dimensions to spy on the World that attacked their own. The "Oners" had been very high tech, very aggressive, as magic as their own people. They went to collect information, and found a world preparing for war. Can they use this strange world's social conventions to derail a war?

Pam is making her older books freebies, 5 days apiece. And if you have Kindle Unlimited you can read them all now.

Here's the UK KU for 3 months for £1.99 offer

Note this is public domain in some countries, so if you happen to live or otherwise physically be in the right country, you might be able to pick this up free.

One source is Faded Page, if you're in Canada or other countries where it's PD.

I've put it on my "next-time-in-Canada" list...

Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory is $2.99 on Amazon US (and other regions that don't have their own Kindle store).

This is a story about a family of con artists, who may or may not have real magical powers.

Some Arthur C. Clarke on sale for $1.99. I know now that they're Open Road books they go on sale fairly often, but I figured he still deserves a mention. Today I bought:

Prelude to Space
The Hammer of God
A Fall of Moondust
The Songs of Distant Earth

We Have Always Lived in the Castle (Penguin Modern Classics) by Shirley Jackson afterword by Joyce Carol Oates

https://jamesdavisnicoll.com/review/two-different-faces

Eerie, gripping, it well deserves its status as a horror classic.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Always-Cast...dp/B002RUA538/

Shirley Jackson was born in California in 1916. When her short story The Lottery was first published in the New Yorker in 1948, readers were so horrified they sent her hate mail; it has since become one of the most iconic American stories of all time. Her first novel, The Road Through the Wall, was published in the same year and was followed by Hangsaman, The Bird's Nest, The Sundial, The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, widely seen as her masterpiece. In addition to her dark, brilliant novels, she wrote lightly fictionalized magazine pieces about family life with her four children and her husband, the critic Stanley Edgar Hyman. Shirley Jackson died in 1965.

An omnibus of the first three Magic Kingdom of Landover novels by Terry Brooks is going for $2.99 on Amazon. I don't read a lot of fantasy, but I remember enjoying the first book in the series.

Alas, not so in Canada. Although the regular price of $10.99 really isn't that bad for three books...

I might pick those up eventually. Love those books, and I do so prefer to read on my Kobo these days...

I was going to point out that the first book (and the best book, really), Magic Kingdom for Sale-Sold! is only $2.99. But again, it isn't on sale in Canada

King of Ashes, Book One of Raymond E. Feist's new "The Firemane Saga" is on sale @ Kobo Canada for $2.99.

If Kobo Canada has it on sale, odds are it's on sale pretty much everywhere in North America...

Fantastic Fiction calls Youth, by Isaac Asimov, a novella, although by my measure, I'd call it a short story.

Either way, it's free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y982J84

Spoiler:
Quote:
Two young boys find some very unusual new pets in this short story from a Grand Master of Science Fiction.

Tagging along while his astronomer father visits an industrialist at his vast estate, young Slim is lucky enough to make fast friends with the industrialist’s son, Red, who has recently caught some very strange animals on the property.

The animals seem intelligent enough, and Red recruits Slim to help him train the odd creatures to do circus tricks. But the boys are about to discover their playthings aren’t exactly animals—and they’ve allowed themselves to be caught for a reason . . .

Youth is a riveting tale from the author of countless classics, including I, Robot and the Foundation Trilogy, which won the Hugo Award for Best All-Time Series.

For those with strong stomachs, Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard is on at Amazon.ca for $0.99. Support the Church of Scientology! Buy this book!

Amazon.ca: Battlefield Earth

I have the horrible desire to ask if Kobo will price match.

BTW, L. Ron Hubbard was the inspiration(??) for the ELRON awards regards of what certain others have claimed -- I was there--and almost sober--when the inspiration struck.
