Japanese on Nook?
I've been trying to get my nook to read Japanese off an epub and for whatever reason it hasn't been working.
What I have done so far: I found the css code that supposedly is able to access the DroidFont here: http://nookdevs.com/Font_Changes I first tried copy-pasting that into the stylesheet.css file using Calibre. It didn't work (Characters are still borked) so I then did some more hunting online and found the epub-tweaker program on here and did the same thing. Still no good. I read then that the file needs to be encoded in EUC instead of Shift-JIS or anything otherwise so I went ahead and did that using MS Word. Then I created the epub using Calibre and edited it again with that. Still no go. So I changed the .txt file to .htm and tried again. Still no good. Then I used the epub-tweaker program and it still doesn't work. So here I am. Help please Oh, by the way, my nook is running software version 1.5.0, don't know if that changed anything. |

Rename the EPUB file to something like archive.zip then extract it. Search for the included CSS file (should be named style.css or stylesheet.css). opten the CSS file and paste the contents of this file in it.
Next, in the same directory, create a "fonts" folder. Drop some Japanese-cabable fonts in it and change the names to match those in the CSS file (or edit the CSS file accordingly). Now archive everything back in a ZIP file then rename the file something.epub. It should work this way. I did this with an EPUB containing Romanian special characters and worked for me on firmware 1.5. |

consider using calibre to convert the book to pdf. my Heisig kanji books read just fine as PDF. i understand that this is a limitation if you are trying to read a wall of text, in terms of size, but its an option.

Here's a sample Japanese ebook in the epub format. I've verified that it shows the Japanese fonts fine on the nook. Perhaps you can analyze this?

I've been using calibre to convert ./jp to epub with CSS linked to build-in Droid fallback font. The encoding should be in UTF8. I can read Japanese w/o problems.
As to PDF, you have to embed kanji fonts otherwise it won't work. |

Hmm... Ok, I'll try to see about putting it in UTF-8.
The above file DID work with my nook PC which I finally got installed. Unrelated sidenote: manga works great |

Hey everyone,
i recently bought a Nook STR 2nd gen, and install the newest firmware 1.1.0. I would really like to be able to read Japanese text on this cool device, preferably in ePub. I download news and such in .docx (2010) format and would like to convert to epub. Could you please write a step-by-step converting method for this? Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your help. Best regards: geezer |
