I was misdiagnosed with asthma as a kid (I actually had a lung abnormality that was not discovered until I was in law school), and as a result, I took inhaled steroids every day of my teenage years. I had tons of energy, and it is probably why I got grades as good as I did, but I was angry ALL THE TIME. I had an incredibly short fuse and I always had a hangover if I missed a dose.

My wife swears I turned into a different person when I got off the meds in my early 20s. I've been on steroids a few times since then, and the horrible moods returned.

Let's see -- teenager, lots of energy, smart, and dealing with non-traditional identity issues. Angry all the time -- you do realize that could just have been related to factors other than inhaled corticosteroids, I'm sure!

I routinely take inhaled steroids for asthma -- I had exercise induced asthma for years and years -- 10 minutes into a run, bike or swim, I'd have horrible hacking, coughing and wheezing. But I could just run through it and then be fine. Unfortunately, in the last dozen years, that's turned into full bore asthma.

The good news is, they've gotten much smarter about inhaled steroids -- they really don't produce a systemic effect in the same way they used to, and I'm fine with those. But the 50mg Prednisone pills are the pits.

I've taken prednisone in the past for IBD, I HATE the stuff!

Oh, no, "identity issues" (though I am not sure how I feel about the descriptor) were fully resolved, if closeted. I would snap at the oddest things. Cold coffee, broken pencils, and any other number of banal issues. And I stayed that way, even after I was happily out. It wasn't until after I got off the prescription that the mood issues dissolved.

As for in my cup - a flight of local beer!

The local beer sounds good. Especially since we're getting sun instead of the promised rain.

(not sure how I felt about the descriptor either, but couldn't come up with a better one before my first cup of coffee. Was trying for neutral, and if I failed, then mea culpa.)

First tea of the day. I finished off the Taiwanese Oolong and opened a can of Foojoy brand Ti Kuan Yin. It's good -- a bit "earthier" than the Taiwanese Oolong.
