My dog ate my working remote ring so I ordered a few more on aliexpress. I figured I'd try different kinds since I don't like the stretch rubber on the original ring.
I found most of them simply don't work in Kobo and I suspect it needs a separate kernel driver similar to the uhid module. I haven't had the time to figure it out. A linux pc makes it easier to test, but you really need to remote into the reader and run evtest from there to see what it detects. |

Why would anyone want this? like how hard is it to turn a page? I guess it would be good if you had a type of handicap

It isn't.
Still, if you put your reader on a stand you can turn a page without wobbling. You don't need to touch a screen with a finger that is greasier than you thought. You can keep your hands under the blankets when reading in bed and it's cold. In my case, a single button press can get me to the footnotes and another press back faster than teensy tiny hot spots on the screen. |

Are you talking about on a Kobo? I'm curious as to how this works. Normally you have to tap on the footnote indicator(s) on the page. How do you accomplish this with a bluetooth device?

To me, it seems self evident. You are sitting in a chair/bed with the reader resting on something. Why would you want to move your hands up/to the device to turn the page when a button under your finger would be simpler (under a blanket or on the arm of a chair are examples).

The first bit is to have a stack of book locations. When you start a book you navigate to the first page of actual reading material and Push the location. Then, using the TOC you navigate to the first page of notes and Swap. That takes the top of the stack (Chapter 1), removes it, replaces it with Note 1, then jumps to Chapter 1. Now that you've got that set up, any Swap will toggle between the current place in reading and the current place in notes. The two points are not static so that turning pages in reading or notes advances things. My Bluetooth remote has buttons for PgDn, PgUp and Swap. Making it painless to read footnotes lets me not miss "here's an interesting story" in a sea of ibids. |

I had a wired remote on my B&N Nook Glows.
Those devices had a connector for root console over UART. A little microcontroller spit out a command to an injector daemon when you hit a button. I got tired of fighting with the cord and the bed covers. Unfortunately, those earlier models had no Bluetooth. Oh, no. This is lazier. (My steering wheel controls.) |

Was anyone able to pair a Logitech Spotlight with Kobo Libra 2 or similar?
I think that I identified the right button configuration for it but I am not able to make it pair/connect properly, is reporting "connecting..." and after 10+ seconds drops. I wonder if there is something wrong with latest firmware that breaks it. https://github.com/tsowell/kobo-btpt/pull/5 |

I use my Kobo with the backlight turned to warm light at 1% to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. As such, it works better if I move less. With the ring page turner I don't have to move my arms from under the blanket or the pillow. It's not perfect because there are like 10 steps to take to exit the book, turn on bluetooth, pair the ring, and go back to the book. Then when the reader goes to sleep, bluetooth turns off and stays off. That's why I'm subscribed to this thread to see if I can just turn on bluetooth from the menu (no, so far). To each their own. |
