Kindle SGF Editor

For those of you who don't know, an SGF file records a game of Baduk (aka Go, Weiqi). An example sgf editor can be found at http://www.eidogo.com

Idoit has made one (with mixed results)

Question: Can anybody here port a javascript sgf editor, such as the open-source EidoGo, for use with the Kindle Unified Application Launcher? If successful, I'm sure this project would bring about many ecstatic Kindle users.

First glance it looks to be javascript. thus you could do it.

http://eidogo.com/source

(the php server side would be an issue I suppose if you want to run it offline)

I don't generally tangle with Jscript. Since I was never that enamoured with the WAF implementation.

If you find something gtk and c based I would have a crack at cross-compiling it. no promises though. I am not what you would call an expert

Hi, again, twobob. I found qgo (http://qgo.sourceforge.net/), written in C++ using Qt. The source code itself looks clean and editable so I guess the hard part is always getting the makefile and other compile stuff to work. There my knowledge is nil so unfortunately there isn't much help I can offer you. Either way, if you choose to tackle this project, many thanks!

I tried http://vizigo.sourceforge.net/download.html with no joy.
Quote:
../fltk/FL/Fl_Threads.H:24:12: warning: ‘int fl_create_thread(Fl_Thread&, void* (*)(void*), void*)’ defined but not used [-Wunused-function]
make: *** [vizigo.o] Error 1

I had already looked at qgo but I am no fan of QT. qGo is the successor I believe.

I'll shove a debian on the touch and have a look.

meh no.

It let me find a big that had been annoying me for ages.

I've spent the last hour? going round fixing up the old posts.
you're up next...

root@kindle:/# sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends quarry librsvg2-common librsvg2-bin libgtk2.0-bin gnugo grhino

I did try building a few native ones... most notably... quarry which actually has a gtk native sgf editor that can be optionally built but I got stuck on librsvg2 for the PC of all things...
so I'm trying another route now. NOTE http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1575021

bit more luck with the debian qGo but I dont fancy my chances of getting it native without a bit of help...

(plus it is a bit "screen hungry")

grhino looked like fun... might have a go at that one..

But no editor "wins" yet (that fit on the screen)

I think I will stop for now...

find me something to have a go at... and I will have a go pun intended

Uligo looked like it could work... but its not an editor as such?

Need more input from you. I'm no go expert...

its a pyTk soltution I think...

anyways. Fun.

EDIT: Burned WAY TOO LONG trying to get this native only to be defeated by...

This probably means that Tcl wasn't installed properly.
DOH!

Talk about close ... sigh...

Sorry for not replying much yesterday; I'll be more active in the future (but I'm in Eastern Standard Time so won't be around from 9 P.M.-8 A.M. EST).
Thanks for the GNUGo port - good ol' terminal! I haven't tested it yet, but I will once I figure out how to bring up the kindle terminal.
As for the last few posts, Uligo is very useful in that one can practice Go problems on it using SGFs, but that makes Uligo only an SGF reader (plays out predetermined moves) rather than an editor (both reads and creates SGF). Unfortunately, it's not quite what I'm looking for, but that's not to say others (MANY others) wouldn't find it useful. I will suggest some editors in the final paragraph.
Sorry to disappoint you in this one, but grhino is actually not for Go - it's for Reversi/Othello! *hehe* You may know this already now that I mention it, but although Reversi and Go are different games it's tricky to differentiate the two cuz they use similar pieces/board (black and white round pieces on a grid).
As for qGo (for debian distro), hopefully you find a solution, but I agree it will be pretty messy trying to fit everything on the Kindle's 600x800 screen. So...I did some searching for some other editors (below):
Actually, I can't find much more on C++ sgf editors. I'll keep this updated for when I do find some more.
