Sudden screen problem - kobo unusable

Hello all, I have a Kobo Aura H2O 2nd edition. It's almost new (about 2 years but used not too much) and always used with an original cover.
Never got hit or fallen down.
Today I was reading it on the beach and while turning page i've lost half of the screen, which make the device ususable.
The device seems working: i can open a book and put the reader in standby. But it's completely ususable.
Here is a link with a pic of the problem: https://imgur.com/a/u5msRkZ
Any ideas of what happened? I'm not really sure that the screen is broken...
I tried a recovery by pressing the power button for over 30 secs but didn't work.
Thanks in advance for anyhelp

Broken screen.

Unlike LCD they can crack at the back if tapped too hard or case flexed. Or maybe it was very hot and the chassis expanded.

It's less likely a bad connection on the ribbon cable.

Broken substrate, unfortunately. Also (again, unfortunately), a two year-old ebook reader is not considered "almost new".

Best to buy a new ebook reader (and a case), and enjoy your ebooks all over again.

See that curved/diagonal line down the bottom? It's a physically broken glass substrate.

Thank you all for your quick replies.
Even if these news are not good news.
I said that it's almost new because i really didn't use it very much - mainly during vacation-, and it always had the original cover.
I have tons of kobo books bought by my wife, otherwise i'd consider switching to kindle.
Given that the glass is broken, i think that finding the proof of purchase won't help to get warranty assistance (in italy warranty lasts 2 years): no one will believe that it didn't get any hit

Another question: i've seen new screens around 40 euros, no one suggesting me to try to repair my kobo? Is it very hard to swap the screen?

Hitting is only one way to break a glass substrate. Twisting and bending forces, or temperature extremes, can do it.

I'm not sure why you'd change to a Kindle as a result? I don't _think_ they have a flexible-substrate device yet (please correct me if I'm wrong), while Kobo does - the Forma.

I have Kindle and Kobo. The Wife had a kindle Paperwhite 3 and upgraded to a Kobo Libra. It's possible to read Amazon Kindle books on a Kobo. It has the best on device and Calibre book management.

Swapping the screen itself isn't that hard. It's taking the reader apart and reassembling. Also there are possibly different factory settings per screen (marked on the ribbon) and unless the replacement is similar the contrast can be poor. The Libra has a good design of alloy chassis, so I don't think the screen breaking on it a big risk. The Forma is about €100 more here in Ireland, either in a local shop or online.

i'd change just for easier assistance (anyway, the kobo forma has an unreachable price)

I was wondering if it's possible (and easy) the contrary... accessing all kobo books purchased (with drm, though) and read them on a kindle

ok, thanks. I checked better either ebay or aliexpress and it seems not so easy to find the correct screen (i make confusion between Kobo Aura H2O edition 1, 2, the model named aura without h2o,... i can't understand if they are all different models or if some models are named in different ways (Kobo aura ed2 and kobo aura h2o are the same, for example?)

Import into calibre (removing DRM if necessary), convert epub to azw3. sideload to your Kindle. If you are using the Kobo desktop app, the OBOK plugin (see Apprentice Alf or Harper for this) will remove DRM and transfer the downloaded Kobo books to calibre. If you are downloading directly, you need to use ADE to download the DRM encumbered books and then the DeDRM plugin to remove DRM (see the same apprentices as above). Non-DRMmed ebooks will download with names that are only meaningful to a computer but will import into calibre with the correct title/author (for the most part, I've seen some oddities).

There are three H2O models. They are all Auras , but there are non-H2O Auras.

The Original Aura H2O (also called Aura HD H2O) has an SD card slot. It's 6.8" and about 227 dpi or 267 dpi I think. Some may be 6" 167 DPI and some 6" 300 dpi.

All those Aura and Aura H2Os MIGHT have different screens.
