From the blurb, this one, The Coldest Case, looks as if it may be a little more back to the traditional Bruno, as he helps his boss, J-J, re-investigate J-J's unsolved (and now very cold) first case. Fingers crossed!

This is probably on sale as part of that weird (but much appreciated) UK thing where they put most-recent-in-series titles on sale for £0.99 very briefly, usually only one day, shortly after publication. So go grab it now if you want it - I actually grabbed it before doing this post, which I don't do very often .

Vendetta in Death is the 49th in the Eve Dallas series by JD Robb. It's $3.99 today as part of the US Kindle Daily Deal. It was on sale a while back at Kindle UK, so if you travel, check carefully...

Spoiler:
Quote:
Lieutenant Eve Dallas must keep the predator from becoming the prey in Vendetta in Death, the newest thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author J.D. Robb.

She calls herself Lady Justice. And once she has chosen a man as her target, she turns herself into a tall blonde or a curvaceous redhead, makes herself as alluring and seductive as possible to them. Once they are in her grasp, they are powerless.

The first victim is wealthy businessman Nigel McEnroy. His company’s human resources department has already paid out settlements to a couple of his young victims—but they don’t know that his crimes go far beyond workplace harassment. Lady Justice knows. And in one shocking night of brutality, she makes him pay a much steeper price.

Now Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, are combing through the evidence of McEnroy’s secret life. His compulsive need to record his misdeeds provides them with a wide range of suspects, but the true identity of Lady Justice remains elusive. It’s a challenging case, made even more difficult by McEnroy’s widow, who reacts to the investigation with fury, denial, and threats. Meanwhile, Lady Justice’s criminal crusade is escalating rapidly, and if Eve can’t stop this vigilante, there’s no telling how much blood may be spilled…

Desert Heat is the first book in JA Jance's Joanna Brady series. It’s on sale for £1.99 at Kindle UK right now. Most of Jance's books don't go on sale very often, so if you haven't tried this series, here's your chance to try at a good price.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000FC11DS
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000FC11DS

Spoiler:
Quote:
A cop lies dying beneath the blistering Arizona sun—a local lawman who may well have become the next sheriff of Cochise County. The police brass claim that Andy Brady was dirty, and that his shooting was a suicide attempt. Joanna Brady, his devoted wife and mother of their nine-year-old daughter, knows a cover-up when she hears one . . . and murder when she sees it. But her determined efforts to hunt down an assassin and clear her husband's name are placing Joanna and her surviving family in harm's way—because in the desert, the one thing more lethal than a rattler's bite . . . is the truth.

Death and the Chapman, which is the first in Kate Sedley's Roger the Chapman series, is free right now at Kindle UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B099ZJ17DB

It’s not free as of now at Kindle US.

Spoiler:
Quote:
One man’s disappearance is another man’s destiny... The birth of a new medieval detective.
The political situation in 1471 is complex and the war between the Yorkist and Lancastrian factions rages on. But for Roger the Chapman, who has recently given up a monk’s cell for freedom to be found peddling his wares on the open road, life goes on much as normal.

Until, that is, he gets caught up in the strange disappearance of Clement Weaver, only son of a wealthy Bristol alderman. It seems that Clement is not the only one to have vanished without a trace from London’s Crossed Hands Inn...

Roger’s interest is piqued and at the request of the alderman he sets off for the bustle and excitement of London, to find out just how Clement disappeared. It is a journey that carries him to a confrontation with the highest power in the land, and puts his life in mortal peril.

The first of the gripping Roger the Chapman mysteries, the memoirs of an insatiably curious ex-monk who seeks out justice for the victims of medieval miscreants, ideal for fans of Graham Brack and Paul Doherty.

Several of the other early titles in this series are also available at pretty good prices - info and links are in this previous post, although some of the prices have changed a bit.

Blacktop Wasteland by S. A. Cosby is $2.99 at Amazon US.

Yes, the story founds familiar. But look at the accolades it's earned:

Quote:
Los Angeles Times Book Prize Winner • New York Times Notable Book • NPR’s Best Books of the Year • BookPage’s #1 Mystery and Suspense of the Year • Sun Sentinel’s #1 Best Mystery of the Year
“I loved Blacktop Wasteland...[A] fast-paced, bareknuckle thriller.” -Stephen King
“A roaring, full-throttle thriller, crackling with tension and charm.” -The New York Times Book Review
"One of the year's strongest novels." -Sun Sentinel

A husband, a father, a son, a business owner...And the best getaway driver east of the Mississippi.

Beauregard “Bug” Montage is an honest mechanic, a loving husband, and a hard-working dad. Bug knows there’s no future in the man he used to be: known from the hills of North Carolina to the beaches of Florida as the best wheelman on the East Coast.

He thought he'd left all that behind him, but as his carefully built new life begins to crumble, he finds himself drawn inexorably back into a world of blood and bullets. When a smooth-talking former associate comes calling with a can't-miss jewelry store heist, Bug feels he has no choice but to get back in the driver's seat. And Bug is at his best where the scent of gasoline mixes with the smell of fear.

Haunted by the ghost of who he used to be and the father who disappeared when he needed him most, Bug must find a way to navigate this blacktop wasteland...or die trying.

Like Ocean’s Eleven meets Drive, with a Southern noir twist, S. A. Cosby’s Blacktop Wasteland is a searing, operatic story of a man pushed to his limits by poverty, race, and his own former life of crime.

Midnight Come Again is the tenth in Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak series - a series which I mostly like, but occasionally hate, as in the book before this one, and in Bad Blood, near the end of the series, where Stabenow ended on a ridiculously blatant cliff-hanger, and then took four years to come out with the next book. And an author of her caliber doesn't need to play tricks like that.

Still, I keep reading the series, because most of them are great...

Midnight has dropped to $1.99 in the US and Stabenow's books don't go on sale that often in the US, and are really expensive (especially the later ones) when not on sale, so grab it if you want it. (Note there were some omnibuses of lots of Kate Shugak titles on sale many years ago, so check carefully before you buy...)

Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B003J4VE68
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/midnight-come-again

Spoiler:
Quote:
Edgar Award winner Dana Stabenow has written nine atmospheric crime novels featuring the very prickly, very human Kate Shugak, but her novels also have a scene-stealing costar: Alaska, unforgiving, breathtaking, dangerous, and beautiful. Stabenow's evocation of this wilderness, combined with her talent for bringing characters to life and creating knuckle-whitening suspense, has made her "one of the strongest voices in crime fiction." (Seattle Times).

Now in Midnight Come Again, all these elements come together for Stabenow's most compelling Kate Shugak novel to date.

Kate, a former investigator for the Anchorage D.A. and now a P.I. for hire, is missing after a winter spent in mourning. Alaska State Trooper Jim Chopin, Kate's best friend, needs her to help him work a new case. He discovers her hiding out in Bering, a small fishing village on Alaska's western coast, living and working under an assumed name-- working hard, as eighteen-hour workdays seem to be her only justification for getting up in the morning. But before they can even discuss Kate's last several months, or what Jim is doing looking for her in Bering, they're up to their eyes in Jim's case, which is suddenly more complicated-- and more dangerous-- than they suspected.

A magnificent crime novel about life in America's last wilderness, the heart-wrenching grief that goes with love, and murder, Midnight Come Again is Dana Stabenow's best novel to date.

The Body in the Lighthouse is the 13th in Katherine Hall Page's Faith Fairchild series. The books in this series go on sale a smidge more often than Stabenow's (^^^), however there are a lot of them, and with a couple of exceptions, any given one doesn't go on sale all that often. And so you still should grab this one now if you want it !
