TechCrunch: HP to kill Windows 7 Tablet

http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/29/hew...ablet-project/

Quote:
Hewlett-Packard has killed off it’s much ballyhooed Windows 7 tablet computer, says a source who’s been briefed on the matter.

The device was first unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at CES 2010 in January and was supposed to hit the market in mid 2010. But our source tells us that HP is not satisfied with Windows 7 as a tablet operating system and has terminated the project.

So is Google going to announce that it's killing off its Android tablet next? First the Courier, now the HP Slate... It's like everyone is terrified of challenging the iPad.

That's too bad, because I was interested in a tablet with a full operating system.

I'm guessing we will see a ton of Android and Chrome Tablets in the near future.

And HP will transfer their efforts to a WebOS Tablet instead, now they are buying Palm.

And Courier...maybe HP was the planned hardware partner, and their Palm buyout pretty much killed both projects (Win 7 Slate and Courier)

Yeah I think this doesn't at all mean that they're killing the HP slate.

Just means they'll make it with the WebOS since they acquired Palm.

That could work better. I'm skeptical that a Windows 7 tablet could ever come close to matching the "intuitiveness" of the iPad.

Tablets need their own OS--not a stripped down version of Windows 7 or the Mac OS.

But at the same time, they need more than a smartphone or PDA OS, so here's to hoping that they soup it up into a nice tablet OS designed around touch interface.
