Question battery problem (one more)

I bought the Forma in October 2018, and have been using it intensively since. The battery hasn't been the best, still manageable. But recently it has started draining much faster, like some 50% after 4 hours' reading, just reading, no wifi, light at 100%. I haven't changed F/W recently (skipped the last one).
Am I justified in thinking that would warrant an exchange?

EDIT: also it seems to take longer to recharge.

Don't trust the battery gauge. It's lying (by design, that's kind of its job).

Did a real, full cycle actually get shorter?

Also do you sideload books, and if you do, did the battery drain start after you sideloaded one specific book? That can be one of the reason at times. Try removing all of the books that could have potentially caused it and see if it gets better; if it does, sideload them one at a time until you find the culprit.

I waited to do 2 FULL cycles before answering you (I usually charge when the device tells me 10%, recharge), and am surprised by the results.

A previous, incomplete, cycle consumed 90% (according to the gauge) in 7:50 hours.

The first complete cycle consumed 90% in 7:55 hours - and the last % in 4:30 hours, so a total of 12:25 hours, much longer than I'd expected for the last 10%.

The second complete cycle was much less efficient: 88% in 6 hours, 35 minutes for the last 12%, for a total of 6:35 hours.

I didn't monitor that precisely before, but my problem is that the gauge is so unreliable that I don't dare to use my Forma on the go, and have to sync the Forma and the H2O2 all the time, and endure the H2o2 when I so much prefer the Forma (other than the battery).

It felt like a progressive reduction of the battery efficiency, but I didn't monitor it precisely. See my post above for monitoring results.
I don't think it is due to a specific book - and I sideload too many to pinpoint any.

Deffinately not normal for a Forma. they actually have remarkably good battery life. You either have something that is getting stuck (with the cpu in full use,), or your device is faulty.

My suggestion, as painfully annoying as it will be, is to go to Settings -> Manage Downloads and delete all of the items. Then go to Settings -> Accounts and press sign out button. You will then have to set up the Kobo again as new. Load only the books you are currently reading, and monitor for a few days to see if the abnormal battery drain is gone. If the the battery still lasts for so little time, then seek a replacement, (hopefully on warranty.)

I have seen Kobos last *hours* on a gauge stuck @ 1%, FWIW. .

That doesn't necessarily help you, though . Basically, if you can charge it, do so, with increasing priority the closer you get to 20% left.

I was thinking of asking for a replacement. I went through 3 Ones before the port died on the last one, after 19 months, but 2 years and one month from the original, so one month after the 2 years guarantee lapsed. Fnac gave me a 66 € voucher for it though which was a pleasant surprise (I'd brought it back for recycling). I will try your method first before that, though it will be painful: I have 4300 books there, including my reference works - I never know which ones I'll need.

I recently noticed my Forma had terrible battery life when in sleep mode, I mean draining 40% overnight terrible. I enabled devmode and logging and this is what I got in syslog and dmesg:

...etc
So the gyro appears to not be getting put to sleep correctly, or it's failing to ack and sleep, and so causes continuous wake/sleep draining the battery.

I'm about to go return it for a replacement, will report back if issue is gone on replacement.

I ended up getting a refund so I could get a Boox Note Pro 10.3" instead. The Forma is a nice device overall, but I felt it wasn't right for me.
