RNA injections. (Or capsules for those who can't stand injections.)
But I agree that I'd rather read a book than "recall" it. |

Ereaders will write the narratives they display.
Your ereader will know your tastes, it will sense your mood; it will compose the perfect story for that particular moment. Every story will be custom made; crafted to an exquisite perfection beyond the dreams of human composition. The best book you've ever read - multiplied a thousand-fold. |

As long as the covers of the books I create have Bookish Dreamer in her new avatar on the cover, I'll read them!

Oh boy, I can picture a far future, where a criminal could be condemned to perpetual dumbness: a complete brain wipe, except the minimum necessaru to breathe, eat, drink, crap and follow orders.
Or more complex features, like "forgetting" a certain ex-girlfriend or mother-in-law's existence. Last edited by Over; 08-18-2008 at 06:06 PM. |

Actually, I'd have suggested interactive books, but we've had those for over 20 years (as interactive fiction, e.g. ZORK and its descendants).
Or textbooks or reference books that update themselves continuously... oh, wait, that's Wikipedia.... One idea might be "layered" books, where you can choose how much description you get vs. action scenes, for example... and when the heroine sits down to a delicious meal, the recipe is only a click away. |
