If you don't qualify the search term with a specific column name e.g. title:"sword", then all columns are searched. The Comments column (and similar columns) are not indexed so searching in them is slower.
You can control which columns are searched via the Preference-Searching->What to search by default settings. BR |

My favorite means to search is using
Shift+Ctrl+F I can easily navigate by keyboard to any tab/field (using the tab key and also the ALT+[underscored letter] combos), type who or what I'm looking for, press enter and up comes my search very quickly(and I have a very large library). |

Also, in the searching preferences, delete the checkmark that's before the option "Highlight search results instead of restricting the book list to the results". Then you see only the relevant results, not the entire library with the results highlighted.

It is highlighted but always seem to have to scroll way down the list to find it. |

Usually between the search bar and the saved search box, you will have a button that is a square with lines of text (kind of looks like a book page). Press this to disable highlighting. It will then have a bar through it. I know sometimes it can be hidden, then you can go to Preferences=>Searching and uncheck the Highlight box

See ==>> Some plugins, can change calibre's search highlighting
Tip, there are sticky threads at the top of each calibre forum (including the main one), they contain information pertinent to common issues. You can save yourself time and embarrassment by having a look there before posting. BR |
