I don't quite the point of "immersion" reading. If you're going to read anyhow, you might as well just read. But I'm not much for audio books, so I'm probably missing something about the feature.

I don't listen to audiobooks either. I'm guessing listening and reading at the same time could be useful if you were learning a language. Maybe if you could read the written language pretty well but needed practice understanding the spoken language (or vice versa) having both at the same time would help.

I like the text to speech feature on my kindle keyboard, it doesn't drain the battery much and I sometimes use it as an automatic page turner.

I don't see why immersion reading must be done using the same device. What's wrong with playing the audiobook on your smartphone while reading along on an e-reader?

I agree. When you start adding mp3 players, text to speech conversions, games, etc., then the ereader starts getting bigger, heavier, and fast battery drains. Which entirely defeats the purpose of why most of us purchased ereaders to begin with.

I really don't buy into that. Sony PRS-T1 (with MP3 player and audio jack), 168 grams (5.92 ounces). Sony PRS-T2 (without MP3 player and audio jack), 164 grams (5.78 ounces). Length, height and depth are the same for both.

Newer Kindles (7th gen and later) all have built-in screen readers (for English), which will do ‘continuous reading’ (via audio adapter for 7th gen and Bluetooth for 8th and later). It is not the same as text-to-speech, but can serve as such if one is willing to learn some of the touch gestures that are required to operate the screen reader.

I’m usually too lazy to plug in the audio adapter (or pair Bluetooth) to use it with my Kindles, especially since Speak Screen is available on my iOS devices, it is super easy to use, and the Kindle app has decent support for it.

The Paperwhite 3 doesn't have this feature. I was just guessing that 1) There will be a new Paperwhite (soon) and, 2) When it comes out it will have Bluetooth built in.

But both are guesses. I have no hard evidence that either will happen.
