Verne, Jules: A Jules Verne Omnibus-V1-5/4/2011

I thought I'd make up an omnibus of some of Jules Verne's well known works. This omnibus includes:
1. 5 Weeks in a balloon
2. Journey to the center of the Earth
3. From the Earth to the Moon
4. Round the Moon
5. 20,000 Leagues Under The Seas
6. Around the World in 80 Days
7. The Mysterious Island
8. Robur the Conqueror
9. The Master of the World

I put all but "Round the Moon" in proper chronilogical order of original publication. It was on the same HTML file as "From the Earth to the Moon" and I couldn't figure out how to break them apart without a lot of headaches.

only now I notice that Verne and Wells share many themes. Close competitors, no doubt...

thanks for the omnibus, BTW.

Actually I understand Mr. Verne didn't like Mr. Wells writing any too much. While Verne did intense research to work out how to get his space craft off the earth all Wells did was to invent Cavorite by which he could screen the ship from gravity. And you are quite welcome as far as the Omnibus.

Thanks for the omnibus

FYI:
Jules Gabriel Verne (French: [ʒyl vɛʁn]; 8 February 1828 – 24 March 1905)

Herbert George “H.G.” Wells (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946)

HG wells was born after Verne had already published many of his most famous novels .... so any cooying was most the one way ...

Further, as a scientist I can tell you that Verne's novels make a lot of Scientific and Engineering sense ..... Wells is certainly not so ....

Verne was writing adventure stories for boys. He was determined that the science used be something possible with the technology available in his day. The motive was admirable, even if it did produce the unintentionally hilarious, like shooting his protagonists out of a gigantic cannon to get them to the moon. That was at least theoretically doable at the time. You would just need a really big cannon. (Note that the idea was used in the film based on H. G. Wells' "The Shape of Things to Come", where a couple who wish to be the first astronauts are fired from a giant cannon at the end.)

Verne was asked about Wells' work, and his comment on Cavorite was something like "An anti-gravity paint? That's very nice, but where is this marvelous material? Let him produce it!"
