I also spotted some of the titles in the continuations of Robert B. Parker's Jesse Stone and Spenser series by Ace Atkins and Reed Farrell Coleman, both pretty good continuations IMO (YMMV); several of the titles in the Thóra Gudmundsdóttir series by Yrsa Sigurdardottir, which I really like; and several titles in the Josephine Tey (as protagonist) series by Nicola Upson, the first few titles of which I liked, but was meh on the most recent one I read.

A Ticket to Oblivion is the 11th in the Jim Stringer/Railway Detective series by Edward Marston. It has dropped to £1.90 at Kindle UK.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Summer, 1858. Young Imogen Burnhope and her maid Rhoda board a non-stop train to Oxford to visit Imogen's Aunt Cassandra, who waits on the platform at the terminus to greet them. All the passengers alight at Oxford, but the two women are nowhere to be seen. The train is searched and the coachman swears he saw them join first class, however they seem to have vanished into thin air. When he learns his daughter is missing, Sir Marcus Burnhope contacts Scotland Yard for help. Inspector Colbeck and Sergeant Leeming are assigned to the case and are advised to tread carefully around Sir Marcus - an MP who is used to getting what he wants. With witnesses confirming the impossible - that the women boarded the train - is it a simple case of runaways? Or is there a larger, more sinister conspiracy at work? The Railway Detective must unravel the mystifying web of their disappearance before Imogen and Rhoda vanish into oblivion for good.

If you are willing to take your murder with a big dose of cozy...

Ovidia Yu's The Frangipani Tree Mystery is the first in Yu's Crown Colony series set in 1930's Singapore. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK, possibly due to the imminent release of the 2nd in the series, due in June.

I've read and quite enjoyed Yu's Auntie Lee series, set in modern day Singapore, possibly because I've been lucky enough to have a couple of business trips to Singapore, so I can picture some of the settings/culture. But although Yu does deal with some troubling subjects from time-to-time, there still is a lot of cozy in her books too. I haven't read this one, but it will float in somewhere near the top of my TBR list.

Anyway, here's the link for Frangipani: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Frangipani-...dp/B01MSIHY1D/

Spoiler:
Quote:
First in a delightfully charming crime series set in 1930s Singapore, introducing amateur sleuth SuLin, a local girl stepping in as governess for the Acting Governor of Singapore.

1936 in the Crown Colony of Singapore, and the British abdication crisis and rising Japanese threat seem very far away. When the Irish nanny looking after Acting Governor Palin's daughter dies suddenly - and in mysterious circumstances - mission school-educated local girl SuLin - an aspiring journalist trying to escape an arranged marriage - is invited to take her place.

But then another murder at the residence occurs and it seems very likely that a killer is stalking the corridors of Government House. It now takes all SuLin's traditional skills and intelligence to help British-born Chief Inspector Thomas LeFroy solve the murders - and escape with her own life.

'Simply glorious. Every nook and cranny of 1930s Singapore is brought richly to life, without ever getting in the way of a classic puzzle plot. But what's a setting without a jewel? Chen Su Lin is a true gem. Her slyly witty voice and her admirable, sometimes heartbreaking, practicality make her the most beguiling narrator heroine I've met in a long while.' Catriona McPherson

'Charming and fascinating with great authentic feel. Ovidia Yu's teenage Chinese sleuth gives us an insight into a very different culture and time. This book is exactly why I love historical novels.' Rhys Bowen

Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade is the 2nd in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander-spinoff Lord John Grey mystery series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Quote:
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Diana Gabaldon, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Outlander saga, brings back one of her most compelling characters: Lord John Grey. Here Gabaldon weaves together the strands of Lord John’s secret and public lives—a shattering family mystery, a love affair with potentially disastrous consequences, and a war that stretches from the Old World to the New.

It’s been seventeen years since Lord John’s father, the Duke of Pardloe, was found dead, a pistol in his hand and accusations of his role as a Jacobite agent staining forever a family’s honor. Now unlaid ghosts from the past are stirring. Lord John’s brother has mysteriously received a page of their late father’s missing diary—and John is convinced that someone is taunting the Grey family with secrets from the grave. So he turns to the only man he can trust: the Scottish Jacobite James Fraser. But war, a forbidden affair, and Fraser’s own secrets will complicate Lord John’s quest—until James Fraser yields the missing piece of an astounding puzzle and Lord John must decide whether his family’s honor is worth his life.

Who could enact such a deadly design, lurking behind the scenes? As book holder and stage manager of theatrical company Lord Westfield's Men, Nicholas Bracewell is accustomed to solving problems. So when he discovers the naked corpse of a man while crossing the Thames by boat one night, he becomes determined to unravel its mystery. After several attacks on the company's members, Nicholas begins to suspect a connection - could these apparently accidental events be part of some hidden design? Now down to $0.99, US:
Shamus in a Skirt (Maggie Sullivan Mysteries Book 4) by M. Ruth Myers

Also, I'm not familiar with this series, but the newsletter telling of the above, mentioned this too. Also at $0.99
The Gareth & Gwen Medieval Mysteries Boxed Set: The Good Knight/The Uninvited Guest/The Bard's Daughter/The Fourth Horseman
by Sarah Woodbury . "Medieval Historical Romance", but also mentions murder, mystery, and mayhem.

edit: the sample looks interesting enough, so I bought it. The M.Ruth Myers series I've been following from #1, tho the earliest ones appealed to me most. I think there are 6 now.
