ft recipe financial_times_us.recipe

Hi, for the last 2 months, I have had a cron job download the ft on a daily basis and send it to my kindle using ebook-convert. Some 10 days ago, it stopped working with an error as follows (this error is repeated multiple times and then the program stops writing to output):

Code:
 Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "site-packages/calibre/web/fetch/simple.py", line 436, in process_images
File "site-packages/calibre/utils/magick/__init__.py", line 133, in load
ValueError: Cannot open image from empty data string

I was still on version 2.48 and upgraded to 2.52, but still get the same error. But when I run manually from calibre, the download succeeds.

To my knowledge, I have not changed anything in my calibre setup or in my ft account.

I run calibre and ebook-convert on ubuntu 15.10.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Piet

What is the exact commandline you are using? You should be using

Code:
ebook-convert 'Financial Times (International) printed edition.recipe' output.epub -vv

Thank you for your fast reply. I looked more into it and the download works, but the e-mail does not.

These are the commands I use:

for download:
Quote:
ebook-convert /opt/calibre/resources/recipes/financial_times_us.recipe ft.mobi --username=yy --password="xx" --title "FT (US)" --mobi-file-type=new --output-profile kindle_voyage
for e-mail:
Quote:
calibre-smtp --attachment ft.mobi --relay smtp.gmail.com --port 587 --username myusername --password "mypassword" --encryption-method TLS username kindleaddress "" --subject="Financial Times from quiet8 through calibre"
Please note that I use similar commands for faz on a daily basis and The Economist on a weekly basis, and they continued to work.

Sorry to have bothered you with this: I now executed the send (calibre-smtp) separately and get an error message from google about size limits.

The reason I had not noticed before is that I had an output redirect on the ebook-convert command but not on the calibre-smtp. Google has a 25MB limit on attachments and the ft.mobi is larger than that. I need to first put it on Google Drive and send from there.

Thank you for your help. Case closed. One remaining question: can the recipe reduce the size of the .mobi file somehow?
