Epubs open in Calibre but not on my Nook

No reason anyone should be able to solve my problem, but it never hurts to ask. I have been reading epubs on my admittedly outdated Nook. I would say that one in 5 epubs I open give me an error message saying my Nook can not open the bad file. But they open fine in Calibre, the ebook library system. It seems strange. I assume it is some issue with my Nook, but even when I convert the epub file to a PDF it still won't open.

Sorry this is so rambly, but I thought maybe with info some one might have an idea. I really want to read these books!

Try the following:

1. Validate problematic epubs with the IDPF online validator to check for structural errors.

2. Right-click the epub in Calibre, select Edit book, click Run check, click Try to fix all correctable error automatically and then save the epub.

Is the old Nook perhaps limited in the size of an ePub "flow" it can handle? ISTR that old ePub devices had a flow size limit of around 260kb. Try doing an ePub to ePub conversion in Calibre - if the book does have large flows, this will break them down into smaller ones and may fix the problem.

Yes, any xhtml over 260kb will not show, I have had some problems with 257kb files.
