Cover art issues converting from LIT format

I have found that if I have a .LIT file that has existing cover art, and then I use the meta-data dialog to get new cover art I seem to end up with two sets of cover art after conversion to LRF or EPUB. First the "new" one I added, and then the original that was already present in the LIT file. I do NOT have the option to use the cover from the source file set.

Is there something I have missed and thus a way to specirfy I do not want the cover art in the LIT file carried forward into the converted files?

Depends on how the LIT file specifies the cover. If the cover is simply the first page of the book, there is no way for calibre to know that that is a cover and replace. If the LIT file specifies that the cover is a cover, then it is replaced.
