For Harry Harrison fans...
For those fans who would like to see a movie made of a Harry Harrison novel, there is a Kickstarter project being run by the director of Repo Man, to do a movie of Bill, the Galactic Hero.
And yes, I have chipped in. My first Kickstarter project... Linky here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-galactic-hero |

I'd be tempted if I hadn't found the book to be agonizingly juvenile.

Bill, The Galactic Hero was what the director and Harry Harrison were working on when Harry died...
Too juvenile? In a world of Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, Iron Man, ect... |

In another universe, where Hitchcock would direct Soylent Green, or Make Room! Make Room!, I wonder how much Harrison's reputation and royalties would have risen?

But the film at hand is Bill, not the our preference. In a week we'll get a thumbs-up or thumbs-down... |

One of the Stainless Steel Rat stories might have gotten some of my money. Bill is apparently an anti-war pieces, and that seems to be a part of the appeal to the producer. Unfortunately, whatever anti-war message in it was so buried in 12 year old humor than I never even noticed it, before invoking The Eight Deadly Words.
Bill the Galactic Hero is one of, best I can remember, three books I've ever put down with no intention of ever finishing, and is the reason I didn't read Discworld books for a couple of decades (because they were recommended to me by the same guy who recommended Bill - he's one of my best friends, and I love him dearly, but he has the sense of humore of a demented 12 year old on a sugar rush, so his recommendations for "funny" books is really more an an anti-recommendation to me). |

Hmmm, I was always hoping for Death World or a Jim d'Griz movie.

They could even trim out the bulk of Deathworld 1; just start with the casino and have Jason get kidnapped after passing the funds to the pyrrans... Makes it a lot more accessible. And if the movie succeeds, the first sequel could be Pyrrus (bigger budget)... |

I just noticed Deathworld is in the US public domain. I've never read it. Added to my TBR list.

A movie of The Stainless Steel Rat would seem to be an excellent idea. I much prefer "Slippery" Jim DiGriz to Bill.
