I wouldn't increase the budget, myself. Rather than burdening yourself with a bigger mortgage than you need, especially against a raise that should come in the ensuing year, ya know? Just...again, this isn't my biz, and I shouldn't stick my nose in, but that's how a BAJILLION people here got ruined, in 2008--they borrowed against future expectations and if it didn't pan out, eeeek. So...now I'll shut up.

Oh...so, now I can go look some more. I see that you didn't like anything I PMed you though, lol! I'm such a PITA...

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to keep the budget the same, but maybe put to money towards any upgrades we might want to do, if needed at all. But I'll talk to my sister about this in a couple of days. Let the current situation sink in for a bit.

We've added Amersfoort to the list. We had already planned a shopping trip to Amersfoort on Monday, so now we can see if we like it.

One of the houses for sale there is in a street called Het Mysterie, which translates as The Mystery. It's a nice house, a lot of space. But only 3 bedrooms, so it'll probably won't make the list (although if my bedroom is big enough I don't mind combining it with the craft room).

I've got sensitive hearing, but for me it's noise with a pattern. Like music, or the when it's raining the drip on a wheelie bin. When the museum was next door and it was hot in summer their airco would have a certain pattern of going on and off. My mind just hooks on to the pattern and won't let me sleep. I'm also sensitive to (sudden) loud noises. I can remember when I was a kid a popular trip for birthday parties was to the Music Box Museum (formerly From Music Box to Barrel Organ Museum). They have a room (not a very big one) where they kept all their huge barrel organs, the ones that used to be in big ballrooms. At the end of the tour they would play all the organs at once. I hated it. But because it was such a popular outing I had to endure it at least half a dozen times.

Where did you walk from/to? Did you stay in the refugios? Did you have a hard time finding a bed each night?

Ancora to Santiago. Hotels all prebooked. North Portugal really was quite stunning.

The coastal Camino Portugues has long seemed like the best route, especially given how crowded the Camino Frances has become. Did you get your Compostela?

It was still plenty busy. I think I'll be saying "Bon Camino" for weeks on reflex now. There's a group meal this evening with our guide, I think we'll get the certificate there. I have a good few stamps in my journal from various bars I've passed. I also have rather impressive vest and hiking boot tan lines!

The bedrooms aren't huge, but that attic may be TDF. And the "yard" garden is cute.

My sister and I had a whole discussion about this house. We should like it, it ticks all the boxes, at least on paper. But neither of us liked it. But we couldn't exactly explain why. For me it's the downstairs, I think it might be the pictures that make the room seem boxy and sterile (best I can describe it). It's weird, it's got a similar lay out to dozens of other houses we liked, and visited, but this one just doesn't work for us.

Oh, well. I guess Auntie Hitch should shut the hell up, lol.

ETA: Let me say this---IF you are in the neighborhood, with an agent or however it works in your neck fo the woods, I would at least invest 20 minutes in looking at it. Images are deceiving in both ways--both making houses look far better/bigger than they are, and far worse. The house I have now had an endearing outside image but a dreadful set of inside images and it's a good thing I actually ventured inside, otherwise, I'd never have bought it. FWIW.

AND, I'm a big fat liar: https://www.funda.nl/koop/amersfoort...it-witsehof-7/ it's really cute and it's a bit under your budget. yes, it's a bit smaller than soem of the others, but the yard is darling and there's a great attic, too. The bedroom for you, Rumple, would NOT be large, but the attic and that outside room and all that might be worth the tradeoff.

That's it. I swear, this is making me look for houses for me, which is BAD. People my age should not be packing and moving.

I wondered why we hadn't seen this one, but it's already been sold under reservation. It would do nicely, the bedrooms aren't too small and I could take the attic for myself and crafting. My sister loved the walk in closet.

My sister is warming up to idea to not having our bedrooms next to each other. We now want, at the very least, another room in between our bedrooms (e.g. bathroom) or each on another floor. I do like the idea of an attic room, even if it gets hot in summer (it can't be much worse than my current room).

Well, crap. I very especially told the search NOT to show me anything under sale or reservation. Sorry 'bout that! And..that must be very recent, I really did check before I pasted the url here. Damn.

Yeah, nobody where I live would, ever, want an attic room and they be brutal in the summer, but you know your own area and needs/wants better than I!

Our summers our getting warmer, so I might regret the decision. But I think if the attic's got two windows opposite each other it'll be fine (my current bedroom also gets hot, and it's got no option to air it out). An airco is also an option in the future. I just think an attic room is cozy, no idea why.

Today we visited the town center of Amersfoort, which is lovely. A lot of small(er) independent stores and the usual bigger stores.

Tomorrow is going to be rainy, so we're staying on the park. Relax and get some laundry done. We're going to have cheese fondue for dinner, probably whilst watching the Barbie movie.
