moving books from my kindle into Calibre
I have a lot of books that I downloaded directly to my kindle that I'd like to put in my Calibre library. I tried to Add books from the Kindle drive, but that failed. Is there any way to use Calibre to copy books directly from the Kindle into the library?

Plug in the Kindle so that it is recognised by Calibre; switch to the Calibre Device view to see the books on the Kindle; highlight the books of interest; right-click and select the option to copy them to the library.

With the device connected via USB and recognized by Calibre, go to the device view (see the toolbar). Select the books you want to transfer, open the context menu (right-click) and select copy to library.
