After doing a mobi to mobi conversion with [PDOC] in the Tags field of the Edit Metadata screen and also in the Personal Doc Tag field of the MOBI Output screen, I saved the book using 'Save to disk'. When I open the file in a text editor, both [PDOC] and EBOK appear in the header ...

Using a header printer, like mobi2mobi, would be more definative - but this does look like the output has EBOK (not PDOC) set. When I use an editor on my "save to disk" ebooks, the ones with PDOC set only show [PDOC] and PDOC (not EBOK). On the other hand, 0.8.28 is pretty old so try upgrading to the latest 0.8.40.

How might I manually edit the header to replace EBOK with PDOC? I tried doing it in the text editor, but that made the book unopenable.

Thanks. Got it. Ran it. Here's what it shows me, but the text editor still shows that it contains EBOK . . .

The display of EXTH entries is truncated, there are 15 entries but only 6 are shown. I get the same thing, but if you select EXTH 501 -> PDOC -> tick mark (see screendump) and then Convert the type will be changed from EBOK to PDOC.

Hi,
Be aware that the new KF8 mobi ebooks as generated by the latest Kindlegen can have two different mobi headers and two different EXTH metadata regions all within the same file. So you may end up editing the exth of the old mobi version 6 part, which will be ignored on the Kindle Fire in favour of the second mobi 8 version which will have its own metadata. You can play with the DumpMobiHeader.py program to see all of the metadata and see if you have one of those new dual KF8 ebooks. Here is the link in case you want to try it: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...63&postcount=8 This program could be easily extended to properly change/ write any EXTH in either or both headers if that would prove useful to anyone. Thanks. That seems to have done it. The book now appears on the Fire's documents shelf and the header info which was previously copied from the text editor as ...
