Sony PRS-500 going back to the service center after upgrade

As many of you have noticed, the Sony 500 has a much shorter battery life after the upgrade. I contacted the regular Sony tech support several times and did everything they suggested--soft reset, hard reset, etc. But nothing works. So I called the Laredo Service Center that did the upgrade and talked to a tech specialist. After verifying none of their solutions works, he agreed to email me a prepaid UPS label to send the reader back to the service center. I'll keep you posted.

Repair Status Update: "The Sony product that you have inquired about is currently with a technician. The repair has not yet been completed. Repairs take approximately 10 working days to complete."

It has been two weeks since I sent my prs-500 to Sony. And yesterday the repair status was changed to "The Sony product that you have inquired about is currently being repaired. Please allow 5 additional business days for the repair to be completed."

Looks like the battery problem is not easy to fix:-(

They have to find a bug that causes cpu to stay on when it should be in a sleep mode. It is not an easy mechanical repair.

It would be great if they find a simple firmware fix for this.

Just called Sony and was told the battery problem had been fixed with a firmware upgrade and I'll get my reader back soon.

For those of you who had your prs500 upgraded, can you kindly post the firmware version # here so that I can compare after I get the reader back? Thanks!

Mine shows 2.0.00.09180

No new downloadable firmware on the site yet - would be curious whether this will be available to all who have upgraded...

Hopefully they can push the firmware upgrade to fix the battery. I'm going to be kind of unhappy if I have to send in our readers again so they can fix them.

Mine is 2.0.00.09180 also.

Very much interested in your results. My upgraded PRS500 worked great, except the battery discharges itself after a full charge in little more than a week when not used at all. A change in battery made no improvement.

No regrets in going for the upgrade, but it would be nice not to have to constantly recharge the thing. Or at least to know why the drain is occuring.

Can't wait to hear what firmware version you find on your Reader after it is returned!

Cheers,
