There were pretty good reasons that the Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998 (aka the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act or the Sonny Bono Act) was commonly referred to as the Mickey Mouse Protection Act. I don't see much reason for extending the copyright term much at the current time given that corporate copyright to 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication. So Steamboat Willy is protected for a few more years.
About the only good point in this act was that unlike the European approach, the Americans did not move material that had already entered the public domain back into copyright. |

Only had a quick look, but there are some great books listed.
The Great Roxhythe by Georgette Heyer, is somewhat of a rarity if I remember rightly. A favorite author of my mum, and because of my love for Rafael Sabatini, decided to check out one day, and was pleasantly surprised and read a few more. I'd also read some Jeffrey Farnol, which was great, and who often got cited as the male Georgette Heyer. Absolutely loved the small Georgette Heyer collection of mystery novels as well. My mum did not even know of the existence of about half a dozen rare Georgette Heyer books, which I managed to track down as hardcovers in rare book stores for cheap prices many years ago. Yep.
I wonder what percent of them are in the public domain in Australia. Most, I'm sure, but dozens seem not to be. This is because the Australia–United States Free Trade Agreement is a little freer for some readers than others. |

All Authors who died before 1955 are PD in Oz; an Australian legacy of the former L+50 regime. So no Georgette Heyer in Oz for starters. Nor any Agatha Christie. On the other hand, all Sabatini (d. 1950, so L+70 in 2021) in the PD in Oz since 2001.

I guess it is early days yet for these latest kids on the block.
I've only had a quick look at the following. http://gutenberg.net.au/gutindex_aus.txt http://gutenberg.net.au/plusfifty.html http://freeread.com.au/@RGLibrary/newbooks.html |
