Unsurprisingly, B&N blows the launch date
I pre-ordered the nook day one and had a Nov 30 ship date. I just got an email saying I now won't get it until the 7th (same as the stores). To help stem the tide of angry customers, we've been given free overnight shipping and a $10 coupon (no strings attached, it seems). In fact, I could probably still cancel my order and keep the $10
At any rate, this doesn't bode well for the folks with ship dates right before Christmas. I'm sure my nook has a date with eBay now... |

Several of us are in the same boat. In another thread on this forum, someone mentioned the possibility that the Spring Design lawsuit had something to do with the delay. No matter what the cause, it is very frustrating and poorly timed. They could've given us a head's up earlier, but then of course they'd lose out on nook sales to other e-reader companies on "Black Monday".
I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet, but think it was handled very poorly by B&N. |

Pure guess on my part but reading on the B&N board it looks like some people who were expecting shipping today are being told by 12-9, some are being told by 12-11, and some are being told by 12-14.
That does not say to me "We have these units ready to go and are awaiting the judge's decision." That says "We don't have nooks ready to ship and we're hoping they come online soon." |

But if it were just legal trouble, it would be cleared for everyone at the same time. If B&N had a limited amount of devices to ship yesterday but didn't ship because of legal reasons, it would still have all these units ready to ship as soon as the legal situation clears (plus all the units produced in the meantime). If people that pre-ordered at about the same time are being given different timeframes for shipping, this could mean that there's a production bottleneck.

To be honest I am not sure why everyone's panties are in a twist. Anyone who did not anticipate a delay in receiving their product was pretty much ignorant of how first gen technology gets pushed out. Most products that have been released in the last few years have all had major delays in the first runs. Right now we are looking at what a 1 week set back from the first ever batch of this product. I feign surprise and grab my heart as I sink to the floor my dreams crushed by this unexpected news.
No offense but grow up, this is how businesses work. We no longer expect to get things on estimated dates, hasn't been like in a long time. If things start to stretch beyond a week into a couple weeks then we have a legitimate concern and our ire should be rank with the blood of those we want to slay. As for right now I think we are all over reacting just a little bit. |
