Free (nook/Kindle/DRM-free) Lonely Planet Accessible Rio [Special Needs Travel Guide]
Lonely Planet: Accessible Rio de Janeiro is the latest in a series of freebie promotional event travel guides geared especially towards travellers with disabilities and other special needs, free courtesy of travel specialty publisher Lonely Planet.
This was offered free as a tie-in to the recent Olympic Games held in Brazil, and unlike Lonely Planet's usual freebie offerings, which are usually themed samplers composed of chapters from their regular books, is a substantial full-length guide to the city and everything you need to know to get there and enjoy your stay. There's also an accompanying sampler guide of highlights for regular travellers. Currently free @ B&N (also Sainsbury), Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians), and also directly from the publisher (DRM-free PDF available worldwide) Celebrate Rio: Sport, sand and samba: a guide to the Cidade Maravilhosa is also free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians) Lonely Planet has also made a few other of their accessible travel guides free on a long-term basis in case you missed any earlier. The Melbourne, Australia one has been free since 2014 to go with some games held there, and they've PDF-only versions (not available in the regular stores) of general accessible travel tips and festival guides for a couple of UK cities, as well. Accessible Melbourne free @ B&N, Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians), and also directly from the publisher (DRM-free PDF available worldwide) Accessible Travel Online Resources, Accessible Brighton: A Festival Guide, Accessible Edinburgh: A Travel Guide (all DRM-free PDF available worldwide directly from the publisher's website) And, though iTunes-only, last year's Lonely Planet's Guide to Pride: 20 Cities & Their Celebrations for LGBT-friendly destinations is still free. Description Lonely Planet sent wheelchair user Emily Rose Yates – a Games Maker at the 2012 London Paralympic Games and an accessibility consultant for MetroRio – to put in the hard yards on the ground and write a guide with the most relevant, up-to-date advice on what to see, what to skip and what to watch out for if you have a disability. The guide covers everywhere you’re likely to want to go if you’re visiting Rio for the 2016 Olympic or Paralympic Games – the Maracanã Football Stadium, Copacabana, Barra da Tijuca, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Ipanema, Leblon, Gávea and more – with neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood accessible top tips. Disabled athletes and visitors will discover where to surf and samba with local disabled people’s organizations, and how to explore the lively nightlife scene and take in amazing beach views from Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain). From what to expect when you land and how to avoid the hassle of unexpected barriers, to planning an accessible weekend, this guide has it all. Supplementing all the features of Lonely Planet guides that have made them the traveller’s Bible – essential information, detailed maps, honest reviews and cultural insights – with information about the accessibility of sports venues, restaurants, cafes and hotels, Accessible Rio De Janeiro will be indispensable for anyone travelling to Rio who has access needs. Inside Lonely Planet Accessible Rio de Janeiro:
